John Locke
John Locke was one of the most important philosophers in the enlightenment. He fought for the thought that all people have rights. He fought for rights to live, rights of liberty, and right of property. He also thought that rulers who failed to protect those rights could be removed by the citizens.
Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton discovered two incredibly important things about the universe. First, the laws of motion which are: 1. An object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by a force. An object at rest stays in rest unless acted on by a force. 2. If an object in motion collides with another, they will both go a different direction. 3. For every action there is a positive and a negative. Newton also discovered gravity and how it works, it works because every object bends space which pulls other objects to itself.
Gravity
Newton discovered gravity and this page will explain how it works. Gravity is the force all objects put on each other. All objects bend space which pulls other objects to itself. The way orbits happen is when an object already is moving, and gets pulled toward a bigger being. The object that got pulled then continues to move through space, however it is still in the gravitational pull which makes it orbit.
Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei discovered four moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. Galileo also made changes to the telescope that could see objects more clearly by making the view be magnified even more. Galileo's telescope model is still being used by modern astronomers.
Voltaire
Voltaire's name wasn't actually Voltaire, his name was actually François-Marie Arouet. He wrote a lot about rights of speech, and he said "I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend with my life your right to say it."
Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes was the person who came up with the social contract.
