Tangier, Morocco. In the year 1325 he left
Tangier to go travel. He traveled for about 30
years and then came back to Fez, Morocco.

at least 120,000 km. He has traveled the longest distance
anyone has ever traveled before the invention of steam
engines. Ibn Battuta was the only person whe has traveled
to meet every Muslim ruler of his time.

Hebron, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Medina, Iraq, Iran,
East Africa, Mombasa, Kulwa, Oman, India, Cairo,

city he traded different items.

was a risk taker. As a kid he questioned many things. As he
grew older his interests lead him to travel
and discover things on his own. When he traveled to China
Ibn Battuta was impressed with the Chinese junks. They were
much larger than a dhou, some with five decks and five masts or
more! They had interior cabins and even private lavatories!
A crew of a junk might be up to 1,000 workers! But Ibn
Battuta said they weren't as safe near the shore.

Ibn Battuta was also a well known scholar.
He came from a very wealthy family. He
faced many death situations but fought
through all of them. In my opinion he was
one of the greatest travelers that have ever
lived. Some of the dangers he faced were camel
robbers, disease, lack of food and water, wars, heat
flashes during the day and severe colds during the
night.

journal about his journeys and the places
he traveled which gave historians a good amount of
information about how the fourteenth century was and
the customs that took place. He rarely kept his
opinions to him self and commented on everything he
saw. Ibn Batutta was a very pious Muslim and
expected hospitality from others.

One of Ibn Batuttas first travels was a Hajj
to Mecca in the city of Saudi Arabia.
Afterwards he went to Iraq and Iran. When
he arrived in India he became a
Sultan/worked for the government and
became extremely wealthy.

Battuta mainly traveled to learn more abut Islam but
while he was at it he learned much more about different
cultures. He also traveled to Yemen. Ibn Battuta traveled
from the town of Zabid to the town of Ta'izz, the capital
of the king of Yemen. It was one of the largest and finest
towns that consisted of people that were rude, as is
generally the case in towns where there are kings. Also,
this town is made up of the principal market.
