Meiosis is a specialized type of cell division that occurs in reproductive cells where a single cell divides twice to produce four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. 

There are two main phases of meiosis: Meiosis I and Meiosis II.

Meiosis I: Interphase I

In meiosis, interphase occurs only once, before the first meiotic division.

G1 Phase - The cell grows and prepares for DNA replication.

S Phase - DNA is replicated, creating chromosomes made of two sister chromatids.

G2 Phase - Organelles are duplicated, and proteins required for meiosis are synthesized. The cell ensures that DNA replication is complete and free of damage.

Meiosis II

The stage where the two haploid cells produced during meiosis I divide again, resulting in the separation of sister chromatids and ultimately forming four haploid daughter cells. 

Interkinesis (Interphase II)

After Meiosis I, the cell enters a brief interphase-like stage sometimes called interkinesis, but it is not a true interphase.

DNA is not replicated during this phase. Some proteins necessary for the second meiotic division are synthesized. The cell undergoes preparation for Meiosis II, which separates sister chromatids.
