Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Clara. She grew up with her grandma in Jamaica, an island in the heart of the Caribbean. Clara spent most of her time outdoors, playing with her cousins and friends. But one day clara would learn that taking responsibility is a part of growing up.  

Today, Clara woke up bright and early. She quickly ate breakfast and ran to her cousin's Tavi's house.

"Good morning, Tavi! Maya and I were going down to Rio Bay to play. Would you like to come too? "

"Yes of course!" Tavi exclaimed. "I'll go tell Mom first before  I leave".

Tavi and Clara hastily ran down to the bay and met with Maya on the way. Maya bought a pack of coconut drops for Clara and herself. But Maya didn't know Tavi was coming with them to the bay as well, so both she and Clara shared their snacks with him.   

"Hey guys, let's hurry to the Bay before it gets crowded! "

"Hi, Maya!", Clara and Tavi shouted. 

Altogether, they ran down to the bay, just in time for the music festival. They all walked around for a little while, exploring the different shops around. Maya was given a steel drum as a reward because she won a singing competition at the festival. Clara was upset about this because she sang as well but didn't win. 

"That was awesome Maya!" yelled Tavi"

Maya: "Thank you for the drum!"

Tavi was happy for Maya and cheered for her. However, Clara became jealous of all the attention Maya was getting. Tavi told her that she was being selfish to her friend. This upset clara so much she decided to go back home early. 

Tavi: "You don't have to be so mean to Maya. You did a great job too."

Clara: "I sang too and I didn't win anything! I can sing better than Maya," Clara yelled. 

Maya: " We can play with the drum together if you want."

When Clara reached home her grandma, Rose, asked her why she came home with such a sour face and why she left the festival so early. 

Clara explained why she was upset and her grandma sat with her to explain that her reaction wasn't kind.
