This book is dedicated to my dog Milo, and my niece Lucy.

"You're my best friend, Milo!"
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Lucy and her silly pug Milo. They were the best of friends. Lucy was six years old and in first grade. These two best friends lived in a cozy Newfane, New York home.
Lucy did not have many friends because she was a timid girl. Fortunately, her dog, Milo, was the only friend she needed. Milo wasn't an ordinary dog; he was a magical dog who could talk. He would do anything for his girl, Lucy.

"Are you okay Milo?"
"We can head back now."
Lucy and Milo went on many adventures together. They especially loved to go for walks in the forest behind their house. After their walks they would often eat their favorite snack, peanut butter, and jelly while watching the movie, "The Adventures of Milo and Otis".
During one of their winter walks Milo said, "Let's make this one short, my tiny old legs don't work as well as they used to." Lucy was concerned at first but tried not to think much about it. They turned around and headed back home.

"It's okay Lucy, look at my new trick!"
After school one day, Lucy came home crying. Milo immediately asked poor Lucy what was wrong as they were taking their daily walk. Lucy said through her sobs, "I can't make any friends and have no one to sit with at lunch." Milo comforts Lucy by talking with her and ending the conversation by showing off the new tricks he learned that day while she was gone. This quickly cheered Lucy up and they went back to their walk.
Milo always knew how to cheer Lucy up, this was why Lucy didn't need any people friends. She could always count on Milo.

Once Milo and Lucy got back from their walk Lucy suggested they practice some new tricks to get ready for Milo's upcoming dog show. Lucy was very determined to win this year after getting second last year.
Milo turned down Lucy's offer because he was exhausted from the walk. "This is not like Milo", Lucy thought to herself. Milo reassured Lucy that he was just tired and needed some rest from the long walk.

"Get up silly, it's time to start our day!"
The next day, it was finally Saturday. Lucy was very excited she got to spend all day with Milo. She could finally have a break from school where she felt lonely and bored. Lucy woke up before Milo this time, which was unusual because Milo loves to cannonball on Lucy every morning to wake her up.
Lucy tip-toed around the bed onto Milo's side of the bed and slowly raised her arms to surprise Milo awake. "BOO!", exclaimed Lucy. Milo jerked awake and barked at Lucy, out of pure shock. Milo realized who it was and calmed down. They were both awake now and ready to start their day.

"Good morning Lucy and Milo!"

Once Lucy was dressed, and Milo was brushed, they went to the bathroom so Lucy could brush her teeth while Milo chewed on his bone.
They were both ready for the day and went out into the living room to greet Lucy's mom, Sophia. Sophia was a very beautiful lady with hair as gold as the sun. One of her favorite hobbies was making food for Milo and Lucy, they loved this!

"This looks delicious!"
As Sophie was spreading the peanut butter onto the bread for Milo and Lucy, Lucy began telling her mother what the plans were for the day. Lucy explained a magical, wonderful day to her mother.
Once Lucy and Milo devoured their sandwiches, they packed up and headed out for the day.

"Hi, guys!"
"Hello, talking caterpillar!"
Lucy and Milo began their adventure by walking into the forest behind their house. They decided to pick some beautiful flowers for Sophia. Once they were satisfied with their bouquet they kept going.
The further into the forest they got, the more magical it became. With their bouquet strapped safely into Milo's collar, they explored.
Milo and Lucy saw many things, including talking caterpillars, shimmering flowers, and mushrooms with faces. They had a wonderful day together.

"RUN A BEAR!"
Lucy and Milo decided to head back after being in the magical forest for almost two hours. Milo was exhausted from this long adventure. They decided to take a break on a log.
Suddenly, they heard loud rustling. "What was that?", Lucy exclaims. "It sounded like something big!", said Milo. He was right, it was a big, huge, BEAR! "RUN!", yells Lucy.
Milo and Lucy ran all the way home to escape the bear.

"It's so unusual for you to not be hungry, Milo."
Lucy and Milo finally made it home and successfully escaped the bear. "Phew", they both exclaimed in relief. Once they got inside, they told Sophia all about their day, including the wild bear chase. "Sounds like an adventurous day!", Sophie claimed. "How about some pasta for dinner?" Lucy loved this idea, but Milo didn't seem overly thrilled. Milo was more tired than usual and not hungry. This concerned Lucy because Milo was always hungry.

"I miss Milo."
