It was a hot summer day when Scarlet was dropped off at an
animal shelter. She heard her owner talking about his new
job.
He had to move to another town and Scarlet would not be
able to go. Scarlet was very sad.
As she walked into the big room, she saw other puppies.
Right away she noticed a little puppy that looked very lonely.
She walked right over to him and asked if he wanted to be
friends. He said my name is Charlie and I would like to be
friends with you.

One day as Scarlet and Charlie were playing in
the window, they saw an old man walking
down the street.
Scarlet said lets bark loud and maybe the old
man will see us and take us home with him.
So they did. They barked so loud, the old man
turned around to see what was going on.

As the old man watched the two little puppies
he was reminded of his little dog that had just
died. The old man missed Rambo a lot, but he
was very sick and the old man did not want
him to suffer any longer.
The old man went into the store to see what
he needed to do to take the two little puppies
home with him.
Soon all three of them were walking down the
road, headed home.

Scarlet and Charlie liked the old man a lot.
He hugged them and told them they would be
his little puppies forever. They licked his
whole face just to say thank you.
When they arrived at the old man's house they
were so excited. He had a very big house with
a very big yard. He had lots of farm animals
they could run and play with all day.

Scarlet followed the old man everywhere. If
he went outside she went with him. If he went
to feed the sheep, she followed him. She was
always by his side. She loved him very much
and he loved her and Charlie. They would sit
together for hours and he told them all about
Rambo.
When they were tired of talking, they would all
take a nap.

One day the old man had to go to town. He
told Scarlet and Charlie to wait on the porch
and he would be back soon. As the old man
drove away, Scarlet was very scared. She told
Charlie they should go find the old man. She
was afraid he would not come back.
Charlie did not want to leave the porch. He
told Scarlet, he had never gone down the road
before. He was very scared.
