Today we made a little presentation of the subject and also of ourselves using two types of description, the “If i were an animal, a color an a famous person” method and also the word method in with you give some different words related with your life and the otter people need to guess the connexion.
We also talk about the way we learned English during our academic life.
At the end the teacher explained to us the importance of phonetics when we are teaching and also learning the English language.
The main thing we learned in this class was how to pronounce the 12 different vocals and also some other noises, and the rhythm of the sentences.
I really enjoyed this class. It seems it would be such a practical subject.

Today, the teacher continued working with phonetics. Apart from vowels, we also learned how to pronounce past tense verbs, consonants, diphthongs, and triphthongs.
Furthermore, we took a test to discover which of the seven intelligences we possess.
In this class, I was able to improve my pronunciation thanks to learning phonetics.
I really enjoyed the class because it was very dynamic.

Today we met our other professor Maribel.
She started the class asking us when do we have to be in silence, and we answered with common things like when we are sleeping, but she made us discover other different and more important moments in which we have to be in silence, and that is what I’ve learned today.
We also introduce ourselves including the teacher.
I enjoyed this class and I think it is going to be a very useful subject.

Today we made a review of the e-guide to solve all our questions as an introduction of the main topics and objectives we will cover throughout the semester.
We also explored ways to enhance our learning experience by collaborating with peers and connecting with people from different cultural backgrounds.
Later on she explained to us what the “Common European Framework” was, and all the proficiency levels and skills it contains.
At the end of the class we also talked about the Spanish government exam called “Oposición”.
In this class, I learned about the importance of engaging with students and educators from different cultures to broaden our linguistic and cultural understanding. Additionally, I gained insight into how the Common European Framework can act as a roadmap for setting personal language-learning goals and improving our skills systematically.
This class was both insightful and motivating.

Today we made a review of the phonetics and also of the multiple intelligences with a funny video.
The teacher also taught us what the Bloom Taxonomy was, and what must be the first thing we need to teach our students in English (the class language: hello, please, can I go to the bathroom…?).
Today I learned the difference between the cognitive processes of learning and some class expressions kids need to learn as wee-wee.
I found this class so useful because I never thought about what the first things to teach in our classes are.

In today’s session, we explored the foundations of language teaching, starting with the difference between teaching approaches—broad philosophies that shape education—and methods, which are the practical strategies applied in the classroom. This set the stage for a deeper discussion about how language learning is influenced by factors like motivation, personality, cognitive capacity, and intelligence.
A significant part of the class was dedicated to understanding how to create a supportive and engaging classroom environment. We debated how a positive atmosphere not only helps students feel more comfortable but also boosts their ability to absorb new concepts.
We then examined three key methods for teaching English: the Grammar Translation Method, which focuses on grammatical rules and translation exercises; the Direct Method, where lessons are conducted exclusively in the target language; and the Audiolingual Method, characterized by repetition and intensive practice of language patterns.
To conclude, we worked in small groups to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these methods, paying special attention to how they can be adapted to different classroom settings and learning needs.
This class offered me valuable insights into the theoretical and practical aspects of language teaching. I realized that each method has its own strengths depending on the goals of the learners. For instance, the Grammar Translation Method is ideal for developing reading and writing skills but may not suit learners seeking conversational fluency.
The Direct Method, with its emphasis on immersion, fosters natural communication and is particularly effective for building oral skills. I also found the Audiolingual Method intriguing, as it uses repetition and pattern recognition to help students internalize language structures, which can be especially useful for beginners.
Beyond the methods, I learned that creating a welcoming classroom environment is just as crucial as the teaching strategy itself. Students are more likely to participate actively and retain information when they feel encouraged and supported.
I found this class very useful because none of the subjects we studied in college taught us this. However, it was a little bit theoretical.
Day
25/09/2024
Today’s class began with organizing groups for upcoming assignments and familiarizing ourselves with ClassDojo, a tool designed to enhance communication and track progress. Following that, we watched an engaging video explaining the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This framework is essential for assessing language proficiency levels and has practical applications in professional settings, travel, and academic pursuits.
We also explored the Council of Europe’s language policy, which emphasizes the importance of fostering plurilingualism as a way to connect people and cultures. Additionally, we examined the Companion Volume, which expands on the CEFR and provides a detailed breakdown of the general competences individuals need to communicate effectively in different contexts.
This class helped me understand the CEFR in greater depth, not just as a tool for evaluating language proficiency, but also as a guide for personal and professional growth. I learned how its levels (A1, A2, etc.) can be used to identify strengths and areas for improvement in various skills such as speaking, reading, and writing.
The discussion about plurilingualism also broadened my perspective on the importance of embracing multiple languages to foster better understanding between people of different cultures. Moreover, the Companion Volume introduced me to the concept of general competences, such as sociolinguistic awareness and pragmatic skills, which go beyond grammar and vocabulary to focus on effective communication in real-life situations.
I found this class highly practical and enlightening. It gave me tools and knowledge that can be directly applied to my future teaching and learning journey.

Today, we reviewed previous content and explored linguistic communication competence, focusing on linguistics, sociolinguistics, pragmatics, and reference levels like the global scale and descriptors.
We also discussed the European Language Portfolio, a tool to foster autonomy, recognize plurilingualism, and develop intercultural awareness. Finally, we examined class portfolios for children, useful for observing their language habits, such as watching TV or playing in other languages.
I found it fascinating how tools like the European Portfolio promote both autonomy and cultural awareness. I learned that language learning is about more than skills—it's about building a global perspective.
Day
30/09/2024
Today, we began by watching a video on the "Audiolingual Method" to observe its real application in the classroom. Afterward, we discussed the key aspects of this method, analyzing its advantages and disadvantages. We then explored a different approach called "Communicative Language Teaching" and compared it to Audiolingualism. Finally, we learned about "Suggestopedia" with the help of another explanatory video.
We also looked into various methods of teaching English, focusing on speaking skills and the importance of repetition in reinforcing concepts and structures. These methods avoid using the students' native language, emphasizing habits, memorization, and the drilling process. Audiolingual methods, for example, use repetition and movement to strengthen listening and speaking, with written skills taking a secondary role. The methods are very mechanical and simple, often focusing on basic structures. In contrast, Suggestopedia offers a newer approach that focuses on vocabulary acquisition without strict organization.
Today I I learned that different teaching methods, like Audiolingualism and Suggestopedia, focus on varying strategies such as repetition, speaking, and vocabulary acquisition. These approaches show that language teaching can be both structured and flexible to meet diverse learning needs.
I found it intriguing to see the different teaching methods in action and how each one prioritizes speaking and repetition in unique ways. I learned that effective language teaching can involve both structured drilling and more flexible, creative techniques to help students acquire new vocabulary and skills.

Today, we explored several teaching methods. We began with "The Silent Way" (the least recommended), watched a video to understand it, and then covered "Content-Based Teaching" (CLIL), where English is used to teach other subjects. We also saw how this method is applied in classrooms. Next, we learned about "Task-Based Teaching," where students work together to complete tasks in English, and "Total Physical Response" (TPR), where students respond physically to the teacher’s instructions.
We also started doing our presentation for the next tuesday related with the suggestopedia method
I learned about the key methods, their benefits and drawbacks, and how they are implemented in teaching.
The class felt a bit boring due to the theory.
Day
02/10/2024
Today, we started by reviewing an example of the European Language Portfolio. Then, we discussed the topics for upcoming assignments (mine was storytelling and the world around us). We had a short debate about the portfolio, its purpose, and its uses. Maribel also brought a physical portfolio and emphasized the importance of encouraging children to create their own. We ended the class with a Kahoot quiz based on what we've learned so far.
I learned about the European Language Portfolio, which stores personal information, tracks language learning progress, official certificates, and language experiences—something I didn't know existed before.
I found the class very interesting and engaging, as I learned something new that kept me involved throughout the discussion.
Day
03/10/2024
Today, we started by finishing the European Language Portfolio (E-pel). Then, we debated whether preschool children should learn to read and write, concluding that these skills should begin in primary school. Unless the child wants to learn earlier, we mustn't stop the child's curiosity.
After that we sang some rhymes, a teaching English technique, but we also learned some other based on speaking and listening skills.
I learned that reading and writing skills are not directly taught in preschool.
The class was enjoyable, especially when we sang rhymes.
Day
07/10/2024
Today, we focused on teaching methods like Total Physical Response (TPR). We practiced by identifying bugs and insects, which helped reinforce vocabulary through physical actions. We also explored different approaches to language learning, emphasizing the natural acquisition of language through communication, rather than artificial methods.
We discussed teaching grammar in a structured way, starting with the present tense, and using scaffolding to build on students' prior knowledge. We also highlighted the importance of comprehensible input, using images and vocabulary to aid understanding. Lastly, we used songs to teach letter sounds, such as "S" with a snake and "X" with an X-ray.
I really enjoyed today's class and the hands-on activities like TPR and songs. I learned how important it is to use engaging, communicative methods and to present grammar and vocabulary in a structured, supportive way. These techniques will be useful for creating a positive and effective learning environment in the future.

Today, we started by discussing rhymes, continuing from where we left off the other day. We then explored limericks, which are short, fun poems. After learning about them, we created our own limerick in groups. Next, we practiced jazz chants with an example from the teacher, and we also made our own in groups. To wrap up, we sang several rhymes that Maribel had uploaded to the campus.
Additionally, we watched a presentation from our classmates on crafts and festivities, which was interesting and tied into creative ways to engage students.
I learned new methods for teaching English that I hadn’t known before, especially how to create a limerick and how to use jazz chants as a teaching tool.
I really enjoyed today’s class, it was both fun and dynamic. Creating limericks and practicing jazz chants made the class engaging and interactive. I also found the presentation on crafts and festivities to be a great way to explore cultural aspects. Overall, it was a fantastic way to make learning English enjoyable for students.

Day
09/10/2024
Today, we began by watching our classmates' presentations and taking a survey that the teacher uploaded to the campus to evaluate them. We also asked questions and shared our opinions, focusing on what we liked most and least, and highlighting their strengths.
Afterward, we continued with the theory. Maribel introduced us to the concept of learner characteristics, which includes aspects like individual attention, attention span, the "silent period," and preschool teaching.
I learned about the "silent period," which I didn’t know about before. It's the time when language learners are absorbing language but not yet producing it.
I really enjoyed evaluating my classmates' work. It was a great way to put into practice what we’ve been learning. I found it useful to focus on the strengths of their presentations, and it helped me better understand how to apply what we’ve studied in real situations.
Day
10/10/2024
Today, we began the class by watching presentations from each group on different learning methods and approaches. Juan Antonio had previously explained these methods, which helped us prepare for the presentations. Each group covered one of the methods we had studied.
I learned the key characteristics of each method, and this helped me better understand parts of the theory that I hadn't fully grasped before. For example, I presented with my teammates on the Suggestopedia method, which helped me appreciate its unique approach to language learning.
I really enjoyed today’s class. The practical part of the class, where we presented, was much more engaging than the theoretical part. However, both are important, and I feel that the presentations really helped me understand the theory better and see how each method is applied in practice.

14/10/2024
Today, we started by assigning each of us a specific activity from “Activities for Very Young Learners” to prepare for Thursday. We then focused on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which addresses learning barriers, and watched videos highlighting children with cerebral palsy and ADHD. These videos helped us understand how UDL can help eliminate barriers to learning, rather than compensating for inequalities.
We discussed different types of barriers, like unclear evaluation criteria and the need for diverse resources, active methodologies, and formative assessment. UDL emphasizes the importance of aligning objectives, instruction, and assessment to foster key competencies in students.
We also created a mind map summarizing the parts of the curriculum and how they relate to skills, attitudes, and knowledge, which help develop essential competencies.
I learned about the output-profile and how UDL works to remove learning barriers and create inclusive learning environments.
I enjoyed today’s class. Although we covered legislative topics, the class wasn’t as heavy as expected. The videos, discussion, and mind-mapping made the concepts more accessible and engaging.
