In the magical town of Mexico City , a group of acids was preparing for the Annual Science Fair . But there was a big problem—no one knew their real names!
Harry Hydrogen, the leader of the group, glared at his friends and breathed out.
"We all have hydrogen, but everyone calls us different names! How do we know which one to use?"
A few of the acids, like Clara Chlorine (HCl) and Frankie Fluorine (HF), complained, "We should all have 'hydro' in our name!"
Others, like Olly Oxygen (H₂SO₄) and Nina Nitrate (HNO₃), disagreed.
"No way! Some of us have oxygen, and some don't!"
The acids were completely baffled.
And then the old scientist, Professor pH, arrived.
"Ah, I see the issue!" he said.
"Don't Worry ! There are rules especially formulated to assist with naming acids."
"If an acid has only hydrogen and one other element, we add 'hydro-' at the start and '-ic acid' at the end!" exclaimed Professor pH.
"For example, Clara Chlorine (HCl) = Hydrochloric Acid!"
