Instinct is the way an animal was born to react to 

certain situations. For example sea turtles are born 

with the instinct to move to the brightest direction.

Phototaxis is movement of an organism that 

happens when it is attracted or not attracted to 

light. Like how moths are attracted to light and 

move towards light bulbs.

Hibernation helps animals deal with bad winters. 

For example, some bats hide in caves and are so 

deep in sleep they appear to be dead

Estivation is the temporary resting period of animals 

because the weather is to hot. For example, 

earthworms hide in the dirt to get away from the 

warm weather.

Migration is the process of moving animals from one 

place to another. Most animals migrate so that they can 

be near a better food source, avoid weather conditions, 

and to reproduce.

For example zebras migrate in a circle towards areas 

near large amounts of rain and food

Habituation is when an animal gets used to an action 

or event and doesn't react anymore.

Like after a while prairie dogs learned not to send out 

an alarm sound every time a human walks by, 

because they realized that they weren't in danger.
