Instinct means when you naturally know 

something, for example when a dog gives birth to 

her puppies.

Hibernation is a way that some animals 

deal with the harshness of winter, for 

example they curl up in a safe place and 

stay there until winter ends 

Estivation means when a animal may go into 

dormant place in summer months if it is 

too hot or dry, animals as in snails, 

snakes, & desert frogs.

Migration means seasonal movement of 

animals from one place to another, some 

animals migrate to hibernate.   Migration 

is a behavioral   adaption that helps 

animals survive.

Habituation means when repeated things 

happen to animals and it does not bother 

them anymore because they're use to it.  

For example ducks in a small pond get 

scared & fly away when approached by 

humans but one they're use to humans 

they won't fly away.

Imprinting means when animals can learn 

something in a quick amount of time, for 

example when birds are first born they 

will follow and become attached to the 

first moving object they see.

Classical conditioning means responding 

that occurs when two stimuli are regularly 

paired in close succession.   For example if 

every time you get ready to feed your dog 

you ring a bell your dog will start to 

understand what's going to happen when 

the bell is rung.

Trial and error learning means when a 

animal learns to perform more skillfully 

each time done by repeating behaviors 

that result in awards and avoiding 

behaviors that result in punishment.
