Cathy the caterpillar was excited. Today was her first day of school! She had always dreamed of going to school with all the other bugs. But she felt a little nervous, too.

"Will I fit in?" Cathy wondered. She was small, green, and wiggly. Most of the other bugs were bigger and had wings. Cathy didn’t have wings. She only had tiny legs.

When Cathy walked into class, she saw a group of ants talking. They had long, strong legs. Cathy wiggled her tiny legs and felt a bit shy.

“Hi, Cathy!” said a ladybug. “Do you want to sit with us?” Cathy smiled. She was happy to be invited, but she still felt different.

Cathy sat with the ladybugs and listened to them talk about flying. “I can zoom through the air!” said one ladybug. Cathy wished she could fly too.

At recess, the other bugs ran and jumped. They had wings or long legs. Cathy just wiggled on the ground. “I can’t jump like you,” she said to a grasshopper.

“That’s okay,” said the grasshopper. “You don’t have to jump. Everyone is different, and that’s what makes us special.”

Cathy thought about the grasshopper’s words. Maybe it wasn’t so bad that she couldn’t jump or fly. She was still good at other things.

The next day, it was time for art class. The teacher, Mr. Beetle, asked everyone to draw their favorite thing. Cathy loved leaves. She quickly drew a picture of her favorite leaf.

When it was time to share, Cathy held up her picture. “I love leaves!” she said proudly. The other bugs smiled. “Your drawing is beautiful!” said a butterfly.

Cathy felt proud. She wasn’t like everyone else, but she had something special to share.
