Chapter 1: Mom
Morgan's fudge-brown eyes widened. The wind outside breezed through the window and rustled her hair playfully. Mercury placed the note on Morgan's lavender bed sheets with a frown. "Is this what I think it is?" Mercury questioned kindly. Morgan felt the wax seal with her fingertips and allowed Mercury to breathe a worried breath of fire. Venus and Pluto rambled about food beside the door as the sun settled into the inky blue sea for a rest.
"Yes," Morgan replied, turning to face Mercury. "I think so. But I can't leave you, Mom."
Morgan paused and stopped talking. She felt her eyes fill with tears. Mercury smiled and rubbed Morgans cheek sympathetically. Morgan whispered up to Mercury, "I'm so sorry!"
"What do you mean?"
"You're not my real mom. I shouldn't have called you that."
"Oh, Morgan," Mercury chuckled. "Mothers come in different shapes and sizes. For example, I'm a size extra large with the shape of an Ash Dragon."
Morgan laughed and brushed a watery tear away from her cheek.

Mercury stood up and lashed her tail at a tapestry on the wall. "Mercury?" Morgan gasped, scrambling to grab the pieces of cloth from the shredded tapestry.
"Yes, Morgan?"
"Why did you shred the tapestry of my real parents?"
" So you won't experience any more pain, my love. Now, go to sleep."
Morgan sighed and crammed the tapestry pieces in her bedside table. The night sneaked into Mystica and gave it a jump scare. It was suddenly dark, and the moon seemed to howl to the wolves.
