Mercury is the closest planet to the 

Sun and is the smallest planet in the 

Solar System. The Hubble Space 

Telescope cannot view Mercury 

because of its close proximity to the 

Sun, it is too bright for the telescope.  

Venus

Venus is the hottest planet in the 

Solar System and the second closest 

planet to the Sun. The rotation of 

Venus is so slow that it travels 

around the sun quicker than it can 

make one rotation on its axis.

Earth 

Earth is the densest planet in our 

Solar System. It is the only planet 

that has humans living on it. 

Oceans cover about 70% of the 

Earth's surface.  

Mars

Mars is known as the Red Planet. It 

is characterized by its red, dusty 

landscape. Mars has the tallest 

volcanoes in the Solar System. The 

first successful mission to Mars was 

completed in 1964.
