An Origin Story of the Sierra Madre, Cordillera, and Caraballo Mountains

Long ago, before the islands of the Philippines took their shape, Luzon was a vast, rolling plain watched over by three mighty spirits — Sierra, Cordi, and Caraballo. They were siblings, born from the heart of the earth and blessed by Bathala, the Creator, to protect the land and its people.

Each spirit was given a sacred duty.

 Sierra, the eldest sister, was gentle but strong. She stood on the eastern edge of Luzon, spreading her arms wide to guard the land from the raging seas. Her forests were deep and lush, her rivers cool and life-giving. She became known as Sierra Madre, the Mother Mountain Range, protector of life and shield against storms.

⛰️ Cordi, the middle brother, was fierce and proud. He built his throne high in the north, where clouds kissed the peaks. He became Cordillera, the Mountain King, whose heart beat in the rhythm of ancient drums. His people learned to carve terraces from his slopes, shaping the famous rice fields that glisten like steps to the heavens.

 Caraballo, the youngest, was quiet and humble. He stood between his older siblings, linking their lands. Though smaller in stature, his valleys were rich and fertile, connecting Sierra’s forests and Cordi’s plateaus. He became Caraballo, the Bridge of the Mountains, the unseen but vital bond between strength and protection.

For centuries, the three siblings lived in harmony, keeping the balance of Luzon. But one day, a terrible storm spirit, Amihan’s Wrath, swept across the land, trying to destroy everything in her path.
