Ofelia the cow was President George W. Bush's pet longhorn. Ofelia lived in George's home ranch located in Crawford, Texas. Ofelia had two little cows, Ellie and Logan, who were named after staff at the White House as George was president. 

Native Pecan Trees are Texas' state tree. These trees grow in the east and central areas of Texas. Pecans are the only commercially grown nut in Texas and they play a significant role in the agriculture community. The pecan trees became the state tree after Governor James Hogg in 1919 had a fondness of the tree.

Richard Ellis was elected the president of the Texas Constitutional Convention of 1836. While he was president, he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. This document established the Republic of Texas. This officially separated Texas from Mexico! 

San Antonio is home of the Alamo, which was a fortress built in 1793 and used as a defensive fortress. The Battle of the Alamo took place on February 23rd, 1836 between the Mexican Republic and the Republic of Texas. San Antonio is located in Central Texas and is 80 miles from the state capital, Austin, Texas. 

Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848 officially ended the Mexican-American war. This treaty marked the Rio Grande river as a physical border between the United States of American and Mexico. The treaty gets its name from the city it was signed in, Guadalupe Hidalgo, which is a small city outside of Mexico City.
