Mommies 2
Ally lived in a house with mommy, her older brother Kevin and sister Kara. They
were twins. She was very happy most of the time. The twins looked very much alike.
When Kara and Kevin were at school Ally pretended that her doll was a twin for
her. She understood twins were born on the same day and sometimes there could be
twin boys or twin girls as well.

She was going to make an exception. Ally thought she and her doll could be
twins yet different. She would call her twin Amy. Amy was not much into talking but
she sure could give Ally all kinds of hugs and kisses when she needed them.
Ally and Amy were going to visit the play park so they dressed in identical
outfits. People would look at them in amazement. They smiled with great big grins.

That made Ally wiggle with excitement and it filled her heart
and made her body tingle with joy. Her decision to have a twin
turned out to be acceptable to lots of people.
They shared many of the rides and slides. The sand box was
her favorite spot in all the play area. There Amy and Ally would
share secrets, jokes and sometimes Ally would be bothered by
things and felt that no one could understand except her twin. Amy
could understand it all.

Oh how Ally wished that Amy could talk. You see Ally had a mom and
her twin brother had a twin sister and Ally had a twin sister but who did
her mom have? Visiting the park was fun but Ally witnessed on endless
occasions that many of the moms had a man whom they chatted and
laughed with sharing the fun their children were having.
They seemed like twins in her eyes. The woman would hold his hand.
The man would kiss her cheek. They would take turns holding and hugging
their child. They were giggling and smiling and whispering ‘I love you
darling’ ‘You are my little angel’.

Ally could feel the warmth of their love inside her and looking into Amy’s eyes
Ally would whisper lowly.
‘I love you Amy. You are so pretty! You are my best friend! Did you ever wish
you had a daddy Amy? Did you ever wish you had a mommy to hold your hand? Did
you ever wish for a mommy just for you and one just for me? That’s a lot of
mommies, right Amy?’

Amy thought to herself.
'What would my daddy be like if I had one? Would he hold me like mommy does
when I am happy or sad? Would he tuck me into bed every night and tell me he
loves me like mommy does? Would he take me to the park with you Amy like mommy
does?'

‘Amy, Am I supposed to have a mommy and daddy like all my friends? Sometimes
I think I should have one but sometimes I am not sure how it would be. Samantha,
my friend at playschool, has two daddies. She loves them so much.
She drew a picture for her teacher and her daddies were holding hands. They
had really big smiles on their faces. She colored their smiles with a big blue crayon.

'It is a nice picture Samantha. I wish I could draw a pretty picture like that’
Ally said.
Ally’s mommy had a really pretty friend Claire. They had been really good
friends for a long time. Ally would ask Claire to have sleepovers almost every
weekend for as long as she could remember. Claire was like a daddy to her.

Before bedtime Claire would share stories with Ally and Amy about when she was
a little girl. She had no brothers or sisters to laugh with or to hold unto in the
night during the loud thunder storms or hug and say ‘I love you’
Kara and Kevin had shared the same feelings about Claire when she came for
sleepovers. They would always see smiles everywhere when they spent time together.
Weekends seemed far apart. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and finally
Friday would arrive. The doorbell would ring approximately five o'clock every Friday
just before suppertime. Ally would answer the door. She was always ready for a big
hug and kiss from Claire.

Claire was not around through the week and the silence in their home was not so
golden. Ally’s mom would be sullen and she seemed to be so much alone. Ally had to
comfort Amy in her times that she seemed to be all alone. Kara and Kevin shared a
special bond, as twins always do.
When one twin was sad or not feeling well the other twin would know and in
some special way appear to make them smile and all would seem to be okay. Who was
mom’s twin?

Ally needed to find a twin for her mommy. Abby felt that she needed a twin who
could make her feel happy just as she felt when Claire came to visit on the
weekends. A twin to talk to her mommy and make her smile like Claire did when they
talked on the phone.
Ally thought about Claire being the perfect twin for her mommy. One quiet
evening, just after Ally’s bath, she and mommy sat on the big comfy bed and as her
mommy brushed her strawberry scented locks as Ally fired off the questions to her
mommy.

‘Mommy, do you love it when you give Claire a hug?’
‘Do you like holding her hand when we visit the beach?’
‘Does Claire make you happy?’
‘Does Claire make you smile?’
‘Do you wish Claire was your twin like Amy is to me?’
‘Do you love Claire like I love you and Kara and Kevin and
Amy?’
