Thanks to the bullies, they inspired me to write this. Rember to never be mean.

Chapter 1: Trapped
The wind howled through the tall pine trees, slamming the heavy wooden door of the old campground cabin shut with a loud. Maya banged her fists against the cold wood, her heart pounding wildly in her chest like a trapped bird. Outside, she could hear the cruel giggles of Chloe and Sarah fading away into the rain, followed by the metallic click of a heavy padlock.
They had locked her inside the abandoned, spiderweb-filled cabin all by herself in the pitch black. As a bright flash of lightning illuminated a strange, dusty mirror in the corner, Maya wiped a tear from her cheek and whispered a dark promise into the shadows: they were going to pay for this.
The cabin went pitch black again as the lightning faded, but a strange, icy chill suddenly filled the room. Maya’s breath turned into a cloudy mist. Then, a soft, greenish glow began to shimmer right inside the dusty mirror. Maya gasped, taking a step back as the glowing mist floated out of the glass and took the shape of a girl about her own age, wearing faded clothes from a long time ago.
The ghost girl had no shoes, and her eyes burned with a sad, angry light. She didn't speak out loud, but her chilly voice echoed directly inside Maya’s head: the ghost whispered, a creepy smile spreading across her pale face.
Maya shivered as the ghost girl’s icy words echoed in her mind. “Tomorrow at recess,” the ghost hissed, her pale fingers curling into tight fists. “We will trip Chloe into the mud. We will kick Sarah’s backpack into the dirt. We will make all their mean friends turn on each other until they start a massive fight right in the middle of the schoolyard!” Maya’s heart raced.
She wanted Chloe and Sarah to pay for locking her in the cabin, but looking into the ghost’s angry, burning eyes made her stomach twist with nerves. This wasn't just a simple playground prank anymore. The ghost wanted total chaos, and Maya wasn't sure she could stop it once it started.
Maya swallowed her fear and hardened her heart, thinking about how cold and terrified she had been just moments ago. “Do it,” Maya whispered, her voice shaking but determined. “They deserve it. They deserve to know exactly how it feels.” The ghost girl smiled, a terrifying grin that stretched too wide across her pale face.
With a sudden flick of the ghost’s wrist, the heavy iron padlock outside the cabin door snapped open with a sharp CRACK. The wooden door swung wide open on its squeaking hinges, pushed by an invisible, icy wind. Maya stepped out into the stormy night, free from the cabin, but knowing that tomorrow morning, the schoolyard would never be the same.
The recess bell rang, and Maya watched everything unfold from the flat, gravel roof of the school building, hiding behind a giant metal air vent. Below her, Chloe and Sarah were laughing near the swings, completely unaware of the invisible danger floating toward them.
Suddenly, as Chloe ran to catch a ball, the ghost girl lunged forward and swiped her icy foot across the grass. Chloe tripped hard, flying forward and landing face-first into a giant puddle of muddy water. A loud SPLAT echoed across the playground, and the kids nearby immediately started pointing and laughing. Sarah yelled in anger, accusing a boy standing nearby of pushing her best friend.
The boy, furious at being blamed, didn't hesitate. He swung his fist and punched Sarah right in the arm. Within seconds, total chaos erupted.
Because Chloe and Sarah had spent years bullying every kid in school, the entire playground turned on them at once. Other kids jumped into the circle, shouting, shoving, and joining the massive brawl to finally get their own payback. Up on the roof, Maya looked down at the screaming crowd and smiled. A warm rush of dark happiness washed over her. Hearing the bullies cry out in panic was the best sound she had ever heard. They were finally paying for everything they had done to her.
Maya’s smile faded as a freezing gust of wind swept across the rooftop, making her teeth chatter. She turned around and gasped. The ghost girl was floating right behind her, hovering over the gravel. The ghost’s eyes weren't just angry anymore; they were glowing with a wild, dangerous red light.
She stared down at the chaotic schoolyard fight, then looked back at Maya with a terrifying, jagged smile. “That was just the warm-up,” the ghost’s icy voice scraped inside Maya’s brain. Maya froze, her blood turning to ice. She wanted revenge, but she had just unleashed a monster that didn't want to stop.
Chapter 2 – The Midnight Visit
The glowing red numbers on Maya's alarm clock read 12:00 AM when a violent crash of thunder shook her bedroom window. She didn't hesitate. Maya slipped out from under her blankets, fully dressed in her black hoodie and sneakers. Right on time, a blast of freezing cold air swept through her room, and the ghost girl floated right through the solid drywall.
Her pale face twisted into an eager, wicked grin. “It is time,” the ghost’s voice rattled inside Maya’s head.
“They are asleep. Let’s go give them the nightmare they deserve.” Maya nodded, her eyes cold and unblinking.
She didn't want to stop this. She climbed out her first-floor window into the pouring rain, following the glowing spirit toward Chloe’s house.
The ghost girl glided up to Chloe’s second-story bedroom window, her long fingers passing right through the glass to pop the lock from the inside. Maya climbed up the backyard trellis, slipping into the dark, quiet room.
Chloe was asleep under a pink blanket, totally unaware of the shadows gathering over her bed. The ghost girl hovered directly over Chloe’s face, placing her icy hands onto Chloe's forehead.
Instantly, Chloe began to gasp and twitch. Outside, the rain poured down hard against the glass, but inside Chloe's mind, she was dreaming of dark, heavy water closing over her head, pulling her down into a bottomless ocean. Maya watched from the corner of the room, feeling a chilling sense of victory as the bully whimpered in her sleep.
Real water began to seep out of the walls, pooling around the legs of Chloe's bed. The air in the room grew heavy and wet, smelling like a deep, forgotten ocean trench. Maya knew it was time to leave before they were trapped.
She and the ghost slipped back out the window and melted into the rainy night, heading straight for Sarah’s house to finish what they started. Behind them, the water in Chloe's room rose to the ceiling.
