There is this magical world which lies under the 

city of Chicago, called Zafaria.   Zafaria is a 

beautiful city that Caroline and Micah discovered 

one day when they entered the wrong door at the 

bus station.   They are two teenagers who enjoy 

going to Zafaria.   It’s the only place they can go to 

and be happy.   Zafaria is filled with beautiful 

flowers, magical waterfalls and people seem to be 

much happier. 

 There is also something strange with the people 

there.   They all seem too perfect, as they were all 

hiding something. They almost seemed to be 

programmed like robots. Caroline and Micah 

couldn't figure out what the people were trying to 

hide, yet they all seem so happy in this beautiful 

underworld. Why isn’t this place somewhere 

everyone could go to.  

They   were sucked into this city with its sweet 

smell. Something magical draws them there. When 

Micah and Caroline’s visit Zafaria it does something 

magical to their lives. One day, while walking 

through Zafaria, they kept seeing this girl appear 

at every corner they look at.   They decide to follow 

her.   They go through the vines, trees and the 

bushes and finally catch up to the beautiful girl.  

Micah says, “Hey what’s wrong? Why are you 

following us?”   They girl replies, “Hi, I’m Vanity. 

You know people don’t always appear as they seem.  

Their reflection in the mirror is only cosmetic. 

Beautiful scenery and sweet smells, are all a cover.” 

Caroline realized that there is something wrong 

with Vanity.   Her words were disturbing.    All of a 

sudden, Vanity disappears. Micah and Caroline 

freak out and decide to leave.  

Micah and Caroline couldn't figure out what Vanity 

meant.   Micah tells Caroline that they were sent 

there for a reason and that they must try and help 

Vanity.   “Well, says Caroline, we must go back!   I 

have to figure out why this place is so beautiful, 

yet so freaky.”

The next day they head back to the underworld. 

They search for Vanity.   Everyone seems different 

today, like they are on edge. People are looking at 

them from all corners of this universe. “Excuse me 

sir, do you know a girl named Vanity? We are 

looking for her,” says Micah.   “Young man, you 

should not be here, you must leave or you will 

suffer, and so will we.”
