Papa is with me, but we have no one else.

Papa and I always see that there is fire in the distance. One time, I saw a baby, and it was burnt

I have to carry the fire because it keeps the good alive.

is for the dead bodies

Every road I travel on, there is dead people. Sometimes I wonder if they were the good guys.

is for escaping the cannibals

Bad people are coming for us. I know that they are danger to us. Papa and I agreed to never be like them.

is for finding food

Papa and I have not eaten for days. Every single crumb counts.

is for going South

Once we go to the South, it'll be a better place. Papa says that the ocean will be really cool to see.

is for hold onto the hope

I know that someday our life will get easier. Papa and I will eventually have a happy life.

is for ice-covered roads

It's starting to be super cold and even though we keep moving, it is not getting easier. I think Papa might be colder than me.

is for just keep walking

We cannot stay in the same place because I think the bad guys will get us. We just have to keep moving.

is for knowing what is wrong

Some people left do not know what is right. Me and Papa don't steal and we know it's not okay to do it.

is for looking for the good guys

Papa thinks no one is good but I know that not everyone is bad. I saw a little boy, and he looked nice. We should've helped him.

Ely was a good guy and I knew it. I am glad we gave him some food because he looked sick. I hope he finds the ocean.

is for Nightmares are sad

I have dreams but none of them are good. They make me think that Papa is lying about us being okay.

is for ocean 

The ocean was like the rest of the road. Grey and gross and disgusting. I thought it would have been better. I don't know where we are going now.

is for Papa loves me

When I am sad, I think that at least I have Papa and he says he loves me. He told me he will never leave.
