Nahmee the monkey lived deep in the jungle of the
African rainforests. He's an omnivore, which meant he
ate plants and animals. Nahmee swung from tree to tree
everyday, searching for fruits, leaves, bugs and
sometimes bird eggs to eat.
His home was really warm, but at least he got 200 to
450 cm of rain per year! That's enough water for him to
drink and to play. He slept in the trees after his hunt.
The trees were so high, about 130-160 ft long, and he
felt like he could touch the sky. There were over 100
species that lived in the jungle, but Nahmee only had a
few monkey friends.

One day, Nahmee and his monkey friends, Reina and
Kai, were roaming the forest, looking for a special meal
to eat. They had to be careful and quiet, though. Birds,
their archenemies, would fly down and take them away
from their homes if they weren't. Nahmee and other
monkeys in the jungle were primary consumers,
meaning they could still be eaten by other animals who
were stronger and faster.
Nahmee was gathering leaves from the trees when he
stumbled across a group of humans. They didn't look
friendly and it made Nahmeee very scared.

Nahmee, Reina and Kai climbed into the trees, trying
to be sneaky, and heard listened to their conversation.
The humans were laughing and talking about all their
evil plans. They hear all of it and was sad to know they
wanted to take away their jungle.
The humans want to cut down all the trees, but where
was Nahmee and his friends supposed to live if they do?
What's going to happen to them?

Nahmee, Reina and Kai returned home to tell their
friends and family about the news.
If the humans cut down all the trees, it will cause a
lot of problems for Nahmee and his friends in the
jungle. They will have nowhere to live and would not
get enough shade to survive the super hot weather. The
water that they drink will also be polluted, which means
it would be very poisonous for all the animals in the
jungle.
Nahmee was afraid for his friends and family because
he didn't want to lose them or his rainforest.

It's up to Nahmee and his friends to convince the other
animals in the jungle to work together in order to save
their home.
One day, Nahmee gathered his monkey friends so
they can go talk to the humans. He wanted to explain to
them that what they were doing was wrong and that
they weren't going to lose their home so easily.
"What if they don't listen to us?" Kai asked.
"Yeah, what if they don't leave the forest?" questioned
Reina, frowning. "What would happen then?"

Nahmee didn't know want to think about what would
happen; it was too sad. The humans were much
stronger than the monkeys, and Nahmee didn't want
them to go up against eachother. He wanted them all to
be friends.
"They'll listen," Nahmee said. He wasn't sure about
that, but he didn't want his friends to be scared. "I know
they will. You just have to believe!"
Kai and Reina sighed, but followed Nahmee through
the forest anyways. They believed in him, not in the
humans. They've heard stories about them, and it made
Kai and Reina not like the humans one bit.
