For EDU 308: Integrating the Arts Across the Curriculum

Once upon a time, in a cosy brick house deep in the desert with smoke curling from an opening on the outside of the room, lived a family of camels. Papa camel, with his big, deep voice, Mama Camel, with a warm apron, and Baby Camel, who had a giggly laugh. The three Camels were a happy trio. They loved going on walks in the desert, picking what they could find, and spending time together. One sunny morning, the Camels decided to go on a walk while their hot porridge cooled.

As they wandered through the desert on a beaten path, humming a happy tune, a curious little girl named Goldilocks, a Muslim girl who wore long, flowy pants and a light, long-sleeved and a gold hijab walked through the desert sand dunes. She was tired and hungry from her adventure when she noticed a cute, sweet little brick house tucked in the sand dunes. The door was open a little bit, and the delicious smell of porridge floated out. With childlike curiosity, she stepped inside to investigate, calling out “hello”. She heard nothing back.

Inside, there was a cozy room with three bowls of steaming porridge left on the table. Her tummy rumbled. She tasted the first bowl; it was Papa Camels. “Oh no, too hot!” She cried. Next, she tried the second bowl; it was Mama Camels. “Oh my goodness, it's too cold!” Finally, she tasted the third; it was Baby Camels, and it was just right. “Mmmmmm, mashallah!” She smiled and ate every bite.

With a full belly, Goldilocks looked around and saw three chairs by the popping fireplace. She sat in the first chair, it was Papa Camels. “Gosh, it’s too big,” she said. Next, she tried the second chair, it was Mama Camels. “Oof, it’s too squishy.” She sat in the Baby Camels chair, the smallest one. Just right. She giggled, wiggling and rocking in the little chair. Just then, she heard a big crack and the chair broke into pieces. Goldilocks stood up quickly, gasping and saying, "Oh no."

Feeling sleepy and scared, she climbed the stairs and found three little beds in a snug bedroom. When she came into the bedroom, Goldilocks tried all the beds. Papa Camels' bed was as hard as rocks. Mama Camel's bed was too soft. Baby Camel's bed felt just right. She curled up under the covers and went into a deep sleep.

Soon enough, the camel family came back home. Mama camel gasped, “Someone’s been eating our porridge.” Papa Camel said, “Someone was sitting in my chair,” and the Baby Camel cried, “Someone broke mine.” He looked at the broken pieces, and his eyes filled with tears. “That was my favorite chair.” They heard a soft snore from upstairs. Quietly, the bears tiptoed up and peeked in the bedroom. “There she is”, whispered Mama Camel. “Sleeping in my bed”, Baby Camel said.
