This book is lovingly dedicated to my Grade 4 students. They wrote stories about their imaginary planets, and I wrote this book as an example to inspire their own storytelling. Their wonderful stories about imaginary planets inspired me to write Stranded on Golden Leaf. May they always dream big, explore boldly, and never stop using their imagination.

It was a mission to Mars, one of the most ambitious projects Scientists had ever attempted. Many scientists believed that one day Earth might no longer be able to support life, so they wanted to find out whether humans could build a future on another planet. To make this dream a reality, a team of skilled professionals was selected to test whether life beyond Earth was truly possible.
I was one of them.
The spacecraft carried scientists, engineers, doctors, teachers and explorers from all over the world. As we traveled deeper into space, it felt as though we were sailing into the unknown, chasing a horizon no human had ever reached. I sat by the window, amazed .
Outside, an entirely new universe unfolded before my eyes. Countless objects floated around us like silent dancers. Our spacecraft drifted smoothly through the darkness, as if it were gliding across an invisible ocean.
I couldn't find the words to express how I felt. I couldn't speak. I couldn't hear. I could only stare.
Then, in the blink of an eye, everything changed.
The spacecraft suddenly began to tremble violently. Warning lights flashed. Before anyone could react, a sudden, terrifying sound echoed around us.
The ship broke apart.
Everything went black.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a place unlike anything I had ever seen.
At first, I thought I was on the Sun.
But that couldn't be possible. I was alive, and strangely enough, the place wasn't hot at all.
Still, the light was overwhelming.
Brilliant golden rays flooded everything around me. The colors were sharp and dazzling, almost too beautiful to look at. Squinting through the brightness, I noticed trees in the distance. Golden trees. Every tree was covered with shimmering gold leaves. There were no flowers, no fruit, just endless golden leaves sparkling beneath a yellow sky.

Curiosity got the better of me. I wanted to touch one of the leaves, but memories of past troubles flashed through my mind. Back on Earth, my curiosity had often landed me in hot water. Yet, as usual, my heart overruled my brain. And my heart won. I reached out and touched a leaf. Nothing happened. Well... almost nothing. The leaf felt incredibly soft, like silk woven from sunlight. A strange warmth filled my chest, and I smiled.
Then I started walking.

The ground beneath my feet looked like sand, but it wasn't sand at all. It was made of tiny white crystals mixed with blue and green gemstones that glittered with every step. I wandered without direction. I wasn't searching for anything, yet it felt as though something was waiting to be found. After a while, a strange sensation crept over me. Someone, or something was following me. I turned around. Nothing. I looked again, carefully scanning the landscape behind me. Then I saw it. The golden leaf I had touched was floating a few feet behind me. Following me. My jaw nearly hit the floor. I picked it up, and at that moment, I felt something extraordinary.

The leaf seemed to be communicating with me. Not through words but through sounds or through feelings. A gentle vibration echoed inside my mind. "Ooooo..." That was the closest thing I could compare it to. I couldn't understand what it meant, but somehow it felt comforting. I was no longer alone. The golden leaf stayed beside me wherever I went. As I continued my journey, I realized something even stranger. I hadn't eaten anything since arriving, yet I wasn't hungry. I didn't feel thirsty either. Time seemed meaningless there. Days, weeks, months, perhaps even a year, could have passed. I had no way of knowing. Yet my thoughts were crystal clear. Clearer than they had ever been on Earth.
