Today, we will be exploring Texas! Texas is a large state that is divided into four different regions: the Mountains and Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains, and Coastal Plains. Each region has its own unique landforms, climate, and physical characteristics that make Texas a state full of diversity.

Our first stop is the Mountains and Basins region! This region is located at the western tip of Texas. It is rocky, dry, and home to the highest mountains in Texas. The region has a desert climate and receives very little rainfall, making it one of the driest regions in the state.

The animals and vegetation in this area survive with little water. They are adapted to the desert heat and dry climate. Many plants have special adaptations that help them store water, while animals have adapted to survive in the hot, dry environment.

East of the Mountains and Basins is the Great Plains region. This region receives more rain and has mostly flat, grassy land. The Great Plains are great for agriculture and ranching, especially raising cattle.

The North Central Plains is known as “Where the West Begins,” near the town of Fort Worth, Texas. This region is located between the Great Plains and the Coastal Plains. The land has grasslands, rolling hills, and wooded areas with brush. It is a region known for its diverse landscape.

On the eastern side of Texas are the Coastal Plains. This region stretches along the eastern part of Texas and extends down to the Gulf Coast.
