In a small town, on a small street, lived two
brothers and their three best friends.
Ricky, Jimmy, Zach, Jill, and Bailey spent
every day of their summer vacation
together. When they woke up on this sunny,
Friday morning, they had no idea how
different this day was going to be from all
the rest.

“Ricky, wake up! It’s 9 o'clock, it’s time to
go outside!” yelled Jimmy as he stood over
his brother’s bed. Ricky rolled over and
rubbed his eyes, yawning, “I’m up, I’m up.”
He rolled out of bed and looked outside at
the bright sunny morning, happy to see
that it was still summer vacation.

Ricky and Jimmy got dressed for the day
and were eating two heaping bowls of
Captain O’s when they heard their friend
Zach outside. “Let’s go you guys, we have
things to do!” called Zach through the
porch screen door. Ricky’s and Jimmy’s
mom patted them sweetly on the head and
smiled, “Go ahead and have fun! I will clean
up your breakfast.” The boys thanked
their mother and raced outside to join
Zach. At that same moment, Jill and Bailey
were pedaling their bikes down the street
to join the boys for the day’s adventures.

Once everyone was in the tree house it was
time to make a plan for the day. “Can we
please ride our bikes to the park?” cried
Jill. “Or maybe we can set up the water
slide!” Jimmy shouted. Ricky decided the
first thing they should do is turn their tree
house into a fort.

The five friends searched high and low for
materials to create their fort. Bailey and Jill
went to search the shed for old sheets and
blankets, while the boys looked for wood to
lay over the top of their tree house. Jimmy
ran inside to find the walkie-talkies while
Zach noticed a tarp on the other side of the
fence. “Ricky! I found the perfect way to
cover our whole fort, come look!” Zach
called.

As the two boys were trying their hardest to get the tarp
on their side of the fence, they heard the back door
swing open. Old man George came crashing through the
door and hurried over to the fence. George began to scold
the boys, “You put that tarp down and do not touch it
again! What is all this racket out here anyway?” Ricky
replied, “We are just adding to our tree house to make a
fort!” George didn’t care what they were doing, he was
tired of hearing them play every single day, and he was
going to let them know. “I’m going to have your tree house
taken down by the end of the day!” he yelled as he
stomped back inside his house.

Ricky muttered under his breath, “Have our
tree house taken down by the end of the
day?” All of the children looked at each
other, then looked around the tree house,
but no one said a word. A few minutes went
by when finally Zach yelled, “We’ll have you
taken down by the end of the day, old man!”
It was time to come up with a new plan for
the day.

If they could distract George from leaving
his house, he could never take down their
tree house. They gathered some ideas and
binoculars, and decided it was time to take
action. Bailey and Jimmy stayed to guard
the tree house while Zach, Ricky, and Jill
went over the fence to George’s house.

“Go turn the sprinklers on, Zach and we will meet you at
the front door. Make it fast!” whispered Ricky. Quickly,
Zach ran around to the sprinkler system, flipped the
switch on, and met Ricky and Jill outside the front door.
“They’re all set to go off in thirty seconds! Ring the
bell!” Zach cried urgently. Ricky rang the doorbell and
the three of them darted around to the back of the
house. George opened the door and stomped outside just
as all of the sprinklers came on. The old man was
instantly drenched from head to toe.

As George stood at the front door soaking wet, Ricky
went onto the back porch and captured Jeanie, the old
man’s fat, black cat. Quickly, Bailey met Ricky at the
fence and took Jeanie back to the tree house with her.
Once everyone was back in the tree house, it was time
to prank call George for one last distraction.
