The Constitution is a set of laws our country should follow. It says our power should be separated into three branches. 

The Legislative (makes the laws), Executive (carries out the laws) and Judicial (makes sure that it follows the constitution). They can do things called Checks and Balances to make sure everyone is being fair!

These laws are set by articles which are sections of the constitution!

Elected officials are leaders chosen by the people to make decisions and run the government.

1st Amendment: Gives us freedom of speech.

2nd Amendment: the right to bear arms.

3rd Amendment: no soldiers in your house  

An amendment is an addition to the law

4th Amendment: protection from unfair searches

5th Amendment: protection from unfairness

6th Amendment: protection from accused crime

7th Amendment: right to a jury trial in civil 

8th Amendment: no cruel punishment

9th Amendment: right cannot be taken away

10th Amendment: power that doesn't belong to the federal government belongs to us
