Our earth is filled with plants. Look around you! 

Flowers, grass, and trees are all plants.

Humans could not survive without plants. Plants help 

clean the air. They produce oxygen for us to breathe, 

and provide food for us. 

Some plants are used to make clothing, paper and 

medicine.

Parts of a Plant

Most plants have roots, a stem, and leaves.

Other plants include flowers, seeds, and 

fruits.

Each part of the plant has a job.

Roots

The roots are hidden underground but are 

very important. Roots hold the plant steady 

in the ground, suck up water and nutrients 

from the soil, and even store food for the 

future. 

Some roots are edible. A carrot is a yummy 

root!
