To every new adventure...

Emmy had read too many books that all said the same thing: a princess in distress, a knight in shining armor, then happily ever after -or- this war was fought, this side won -and- “the histories of everything historical!” How dull, she thought as she grabbed her book bag from the floor of her room. She needed something more, amazing and adventurous! To the library, she decided - to Mr. Linden’s library.

Mr. Linden was a small and quiet old man. He kept to himself in their small town of Ashwick: Coffee to go at the corner cafe in the morning, stocking old books well past the afternoon, then fresh berries and a parcel of tea leaves from the Moon and Thistle apothecary next door on his walk back home. How dull, she thought as she walked downtown in the breeze. She wouldn’t be dull like those old books or Mr. Linden - she had to find something exciting.

Make 2 Reflection: I found this photo from The Mysteries of Harris Burdick so intriguing and decided to write a short story about it for my Make for Module 2. I definitely got "Jumanji" vibes from this photo. At first I thought that maybe she was using a stick of some kind of herb for a bookmark, but her sleeping gave me the idea to turn it into more of a magical experience. She's been lulled to sleep by the librarian, thus "recruited" to go back to the Whisperwood to look for Edmund's long lost daughter Myra. In this platform, I struggled at times to find the right photos to match the story, but all that mattered in the end was making this one photo (the sleeping girl with the book of plant life) work with the text, and that took me along an interesting path of ideas, many of which I ended up throwing out. At one point, there was a young boy who mysteriously disappears after borrowing this book, but that forced Mr. Linden's retrieval of the book to put it back into the library too creepy. Overall, I really like where it ended up! I hope Emmy finds Myra and Mr. Linden is true to his word.
