The story begins by introducing you to the 

setting. This is a world where Ghouls exist. 

Ghouls are people who have to eat human 

flesh to live. Their bodies can't digest 

anything else. The humans feel threatened 

by their existence, so they have the CCG, an 

organization made to take out all ghouls. 

There are ghouls who just want to live their 

lives, while there are others who are 

practically evil and need to be taken care 

of.

The story then introduces us to Ken 

Kaneki. An innocent student who has 

nothing but good in his heart. He does 

nothing but go to school, read, hangout 

with his friend, Hide. He lives alone in 

his apartment.  

He then meets a girl by the name of 

Rize. She leaves a good impression on 

Kaneki. She's attractive, the same age, 

and they both favor the same author. So 

they end up going on a date.

Kaneki ends up liking her, a lot. They 

both amuse each other with their 

personalities, and their stories of their 

friends and their lives. After the date, it 

is now late and dark out. Rize tells 

Kaneki about how she is nervous 

because she lives near where the recent 

ghoul attacks have been. Kaneki decides 

he will walk her home to reassure her.
