Water is a major part of life on Earth and can 

exist as a solid,liquid, and a gas. Water is made 

out of molecules which are a group of atoms 

bonded together. Molecules have energy,and 

energy is the ability to do work.

When water is in a solid state, then 

it is ice. When water is a solid, the 

water molecules are packed very 

tightly. Just as the ice, I too am a 

solid as a snowman. Solids are more 

dense than liquids as well.

When ice is warmed to 

above freezing (32 

degrees), it turns into 

a liquid. The drink in 

my hand is an example 

of a liquid. When water 

goes from a solid to a 

liquid is known as 

melting.

The attractive forces in liquid molecules are 

weaker than solids. This causes the 

molecules to have more room to move 

around. Liquids are able to take the shape of 

any container, due to their molecules not 

being as tightly packed as solids.
