All giraffes come from the continent of
AFRICA.



When baby giraffes are BORN they start walking
after an hour,

And baby giraffes are called CALVES.

Giraffes have very DISTINCT spots that are
like the fingerprints of humans, everyone has a
different pattern.

Giraffes love to EAT leaves, flowers, vines, and
herbs.



The FAVORITE type of leaves giraffes like to
eat are from the Acacia tree.

GIRAFFES are the tallest animals in the world.

They can grow up to a HEIGHT of 18 feet.

Giraffes are not INDIVIDUAL creatures, they
like being in groups called towers.




Since giraffes are so tall they do not need to
JUMP much. When they do JUMP the highest
they can go is 3 feet.

There are 4 KINDS of giraffes, known as the
Masai,Rothschild, Somali, and West African
giraffes.

Giraffes LIVE in savannas. Savannas are found
between deserts and forests.

MALE giraffes do not have hair at the top of
their horns, also known as ossicones.

Giraffes do not NEED to drink a lot of water
because the leaves they eat have plenty of
water.

The OKAPI is from the same family as the
giraffe. They are still cousins.





Giraffes are known as herbivores because they
eat PLANTS, fruits, and twigs instead of meat.

Giraffes are not as QUICK as the cheetah.
Giraffes can run up to 30 miles while cheetahs
can run up to 60 miles.

Giraffes have a commensalistic
RELATIONSHIP with zebras, antelope, and
wildebeast. They depend on the giraffes height
and vision to protect them from predators.

Scientists do not know why giraffes are very
SILENT. Giraffes like to talk to each other
through stares and body movement.

The TONGUE of a giraffes is 20 inches long for
grabbing leaves. Their TONGUES are black to
protect them from getting burned by the sun.
