The Little Girl with a Big Name
There once was a little girl who loved her name very much. Mommy and
Daddy had many names picked out for her. The name they finally picked out
was perfect. The little girl was only five years old. She learned how to print
her name when she was only four and one half years old. She spelled her name
with great pride.
Her name was ‘Penelope Anne’.

Penelope’s name looked so long but it was very easy for her to print.
Everywhere you would look the name ‘Penelope’ was written in pencil or even in
crayon. Mommy was so proud that Penelope could print her name. She was not
happy that she printed her name on the doors and the walls.
Mommy would always make sure there was plenty of drawing paper, pencils
and crayons for Penelope to make pretty pictures and also print her name. One
day Penelope asked her mommy a very interesting question.

‘Mommy, can I have a bigger name? I think that if I had a bigger name it
would be cool’ she asked with a very serious voice.
‘Now why would you want to change your name? Penelope Anne is a very
beautiful name for a beautiful little girl’ mommy replied with a big grin.
‘I can spell my name now. I am getting bigger mommy. I will be six years old
soon.’ Penelope seriously replied.

‘Penelope Anne’ is your name. Do you not think that your name is big
enough? If you had to choose a bigger name what would you like to be called?
Mommy asked.
‘I think I would like to be named ‘Penelope Anne,Leigh, Lynn Mary, Gail
Redmond’ replied Penelope with a deep sigh.
‘Well! I see you have thought about this a lot. I am very impressed. I have
an idea Penelope. Okay, are you going to listen to me now? Mommy requested.

‘Yes Mommy. I promise I will pay attention. Please tell me your good idea’
Penelope said excitedly’
‘Let’s call you ‘Penelope Anne, Leigh, Lynn, Mary, Gail for as long as you
would like. There is one thing that I would like you to do first. I want you to
print your big new name three times on this paper. I do not want to hear that
you do not want to do it. After all you will have to print your big new name,
sometimes, as you grow older. Do you understand what I am asking you to do
Penelope?’ mommy asked with a slight grin on her face.

‘I will get my pencil and paper right now. Can you print my new name first
on the paper? I will copy them. I am so excited having my new name. I hope
you will be able to call me my new long name Mommy’ Penelope said as she
jumped with joy.
Penelope pulled up a chair to the kitchen table. She laid out her new
sharpened pencils and some new sheets of white paper. Mommy printed
Penelope’s big new name on a separate piece of paper and placed it in front of
her.

Penelope watched her mommy’s pencil create so many letters.
‘Penelope Anne, Leigh, Lynn, Mary, Gail’ was truly a very, very big name.
Penelope was filled with great determination. She was happy that she
would have the biggest name in her whole class. The kitchen was silent. The
only sound that filled the room was the humming sound from the fridge.
