It was a normal day inside Fish Emporium's
aquariums… or so the goldfish thought. “Hey,
everybody look!” says Ollie the leader who sees a net
appear at the top of the tank. “Is that a new fish?”
A strange looking fish escapes from the net and
swims to the bottom of the tank to greet the rest. “Hi
my name is Tony! But, what is this place?” All of the
tank mates just stare at him.
Tony’s colors are vibrant and beautiful, but they
can't seem to get past one thing. His eyes are huge!
Ollie hesitates and then says, “Well, you are in a water
container that the humans call an ‘aquarium’.”

But, what is this place?

Tony looks at his surroundings to try to
understand. A little fish blurted out, “What is up
with your eyes?”
Tony doesn't take it personally because the
bright orange fish is so young. “I was born this way.
Don’t worry, nothing is wrong with me.”

Don't worry, nothing is
wrong with me.

All of the fish continue to stare at Tony for a little while
longer, and then they go about their business. None of the
fish talked to him after that. Tony thinks to himself, “I
wonder why they are ignoring me? Is it because of my
eyes?” He hopes this is just because he is new, and that
they will soon warm up to him. Meanwhile, all of the tank
mates gather in their group of friends and talk, but the topic
of gossip is the new fish. The water is rippling with chatter
and false assumptions. "I bet he is deformed."
"Why is he even here?"
"Tony's scales are awesome, but his eyes are too weird."
"What if he's an alien!?" One fish even dares another to
talk to him, but they refuse. Tony overhears them talking
about him and he is sad and embarrassed. All Tony wants to
do is hide. He spotted a tall plant decoration in the tank and
swam behind it until dawn.

The next morning, Tony wakes up afraid to show his
face in front of the others. How could he? He was now the
odd fish out after all. He snaps out of it and thinks, “No, I
can’t be scared. I have to face them!” A spark of
confidence ignites him. He swims out from hiding, hoping
everyone will begin to accept him. He arrives at a group of
fish and decides to make conversation. "Good morning
everyone! I know yesterday we got off on the wrong fin,
but I assure you that I am completely normal." Once
again everyone stares at Tony not knowing what to say.
Then out of the blue a beautiful fish named Ava stuck
up for Tony and snapped, "Hey give the guy some slack!
He's new. There's no reason to treat him as an outcast."
The crowd brushes this off.

Ava then turns her tail and swims over to Tony.
"I'm sorry for the way they are treating you. It is not
nice at all."
"Thank you so much for helping me out there. I wish
they would understand that nothing is wrong with me."
"Well, I know there's nothing wrong with you. Maybe
you can show them that you can be of use here."
"How can I do that?" Tony then realizes that he has
excellent vision. He continues to say "Well, my
eyesight is actually pretty good. I don't know how that
can be an advantage to them, but I will figure out
something."
