Today Ike, Zack, and Newton are at school and Mrs.
Einstein has a special project for them!

Mrs. Einstein said that they will be doing a catapult
project and they will learn physics

"What is physics?" asks Zack.
"Physics is a science that involves Isaac Newton a
famous physicist who came up with his own three laws of
physics and gravity," replied Mrs. Einstein.

"Alright little kids, lets go outside and experiment with
catapults to figure out his three laws!" Mrs. Einstein said.
"Yay!" cried the kids.

"Alright kids first start off by stacking five craft
sticks on top of each other and then put rubber
bands on each end to tighten them up. Then stack
two more craft sticks on top of each other and put a
rubber band around one of the ends. Then place the
five craft sticks in between the two craft sticks and
finally glue a milk cap to the top and your ready to
go." Mrs. Einstein gleefully said.

When the children were finished with their catapult they
loaded it up and flung a ball. The ball flew out to the far
out path.
"Wow," Newton exclaimed, "how did that ball go so far?"
"With Isaac Newtons First Law," explained Mrs.
Einstein, "an object at rest stays at rest and an object in
motion stay in motion unless acted upon by a greater or
equal force."

"Than why did the ball stop going through the air and hit
the ground?" asked Zack.
"Because of air resistance and gravity," Mrs. Einstein
explains, "You see a force friction rubs against you and
helps you stop such as what the air does stopping the
ball. And then the ball went done because of gravity.
The amount of gravity someone has depends on the
amount of mass or the size of something.

"Then how did the ball fling from the catapult," said Ike.
"Because of Newtons 2nd Law," Mrs. Einstein told
them, "this law says that if an object is acted upon by an
unbalanced force it will move in the direction of that
force."

"What are unbalanced and balanced forces?" requested
Zack once more.
Mrs. Einstein replied, "balanced forces cancel each other
out like two balls that weigh the same hitting each other,
unbalanced forces are unequal forces like a basketball
hitting a tennis ball.
