Once upon a time there lived a kitty.
You see, this was no ordinary kitty. This kitty could talk
and was the royal family’s kitty because of her special
ability.
She wore the finest diamond collar and therefore, her
name was Diamond.

It was a very exciting day for Diamond.
Today the prince was getting married.
Her servants brushed her silken mane with a
golden comb.

The queen came in. “Diamond!” she exclaimed.
“You look lovely!” Diamond said her thanks and
followed the queen out to the wedding.
The wedding was lovely and soon ended.
Diamond followed the queen and congratulated
the prince in his marriage. Then they went to
the reception.

At the reception was a huge,
towering white cake.
It was decorated with
frosting roses and bows.
Diamond stopped to admire
the beauty of the cake, it was
a shame she couldn’t have any.
She was a kitty after all.
All the guests and the servants were given a
piece of the wedding cake. They ate every last
bite.

The reception lasted all through the night
and this was only the first day. The festival
lasted three nights.
Diamond found a good place to curl up in the
queen’s labyrinth. Exhausted, she fell asleep.

When Diamond awoke, she was horrified to
find everyone else was not.
Everyone was asleep and wouldn't wake up!
This could only mean one thing- someone had
slipped sleeping potion into the cake.

That day Diamond set out to find a way to wake up
the guests. She wasn’t quite sure what she was
looking for, but surely someone would help her.

She stopped to ask someone for help but that
person was the evil wizard who slipped the potion into
the cake! The wizard grinned evilly.

Suddenly a witch appeared! The wizard seemed to be
afraid of her and fled.
The witch introduced herself as a good witch- and
the evil wizard’s mother. She offered Diamond to live
with her. Though Diamond wanted nothing more than to
rest, she declined.

The witch nodded and asked Diamond why she was out
alone.
Diamond told her of the cake and all the people
asleep at the castle. The witch agreed to help her.

The witch couldn’t go with Diamond but she could make
a potion that would wake up everyone at the castle.
She only needed three ingredients: a rainbow
mushroom, a pearl from the sea, and a hair of the evil
wizard.

Diamond set out once again to gather all of the
ingredients for the potion, though she was doubtful
about the last one. Soon she entered the forest.

Diamond wandered through the forest until she
came to an open clearing full of sunlight. Entering
the clearing she saw that it was full of mushrooms!
The only problem- in the sunlight, all of them
looked rainbow.

Diamond wandered through the field and inspected
each mushroom. Each mushroom looked exactly the
same- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and indigo-
so Diamond wandered through the field until sunset.

Finally, on the 1,ooo,oooth mushroom, Diamond
noticed something different. One mushroom had red,
orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet! A true
rainbow! Diamond collected the mushroom and set out
to find the pearl.

Diamond walked until she reached the sea. The sea
looked cold and the currents seemed strong. Diamond
hadn’t thought about it, but how was she going to find
a pearl in the sea? She couldn’t swim.

Diamond gathered her courage and plunged into the
torrent. She paddled as she had seen dogs do and swam
with all her might. It wasn’t enough, she could feel
herself getting tired and slowly sinking.

Suddenly something picked her up! It brought her to
shore and Diamond looked around to see whom had
rescued her- it was a mermaid!

Diamond thanked the mermaid and asked her if she
would get her a pearl. The mermaid laughed and pulled
out a pearl pin from her hair. Diamond now had two of
the three items!
Diamond thanked the mermaid once again and set out
again to find the last ingredient.

Soon Diamond entered a dark forest and encountered
a helpful sign. It read:

Diamond followed the sign and soon reached the
wizard’s cave. She nervously entered, perhaps she
could reason with the wizard.

The wizard heard her approach and spun around.
“Not so fast!” he said.
He waved his hands and Diamond found herself
rooted to her spot.
