Martin luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in
the racist Atlanta, Georgia. King learned from his
father about non-violent protests against
segregation at an early age. Being exposed to
churches all his childhood, he became fond of music
and singing. At one point he was even recognized
for his singing abilities. As he got older King became
more known for his public speaking abilities and was
even apart of his high schools debate club. Dr. King
was also smart enough to pass his freshman and
senior year of high school. Afterwards he was
immediately accepted to Morehouse College for his
immaculate grades.

King was an amazing student. He attended
college all the way to receive his doctorate
degree. He attended Boston University to study
systematic theology, or Christian theories. He
then married his wife Coretta Scott King and
had four children. His wife had took over his
protests and practices shortly after his death.

During earning his doctorate Martin met a man named
Benjamin E. Mays. Benjamin helped influence King’s
spiritual development. Martin soon became a gospel
preacher before becoming a gospel preacher. King
became a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist church
in Montgomery, Alabama at the age of 25 in 1954. As a
christian minister, his faith was strongly based on
Jesus and the christian gospels. King always quoted in
his religious meetings and speeches at church his
commitment to love everyone, to pray and bless them.
King’s faith is the base of his non-violence protest.

Martin Luther King was always about peace. When he
did protest and marches they were all peaceful. He
didn’t want blacks being violent because he didn’t
want them to be prosecuted, hurt or even killed. His
protests had many peaceful principles that all of his
protests were based on. The first, was that one can
resist evil without resorting to violence. Second, was
that being peaceful finds the friendship and
understanding in your opponent. Third, was that non-
violent protest resulted in people not getting hurt
physically and emotionally as well. Another was that if
you were a non-violent protester that must believe a
change will eventually happen and have faith in the
future of change in the nation.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa parks was arrested for
not giving up her seat on a bus for a white person to
sit down. This incident with Rosa created the
Montgomery Bus Boycott planned by Nixon and led by
King. The boycott lasted 385 days, the situation
became so tense that King’s house was bombed.
When King was arrested during the campaign, it
resulted in the ruling of Browder V. Gayle that ended
racial segregation on all Montgomery public buses.
King’s role in the bus boycott made him a national
figure and one of the best spokesmen of the civil rights
movement.

King who was the leader of the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference and a prime
member of the NAACP, he pushed for many
changes in the government. Being a leader in
both groups lead to memorable sit-ins,
marches, and boycotts. He attacked every
issue one by one and city by city. King even
talked to presidents and prime political leaders
for a push to change, with many failures, and
many successful attempts.
