What is a Hurricane? A hurricane is a huge
storm it can be up to 600 miles across and
have strong winds spreading inward.
Hurricanes gather heat and energy through
warm water. The center of the Hurricane is
called "eye". In the "eye" of the hurricane
there is less chaos.


What is a Storm surge? Storm surges are
frequently the most devastating part of a
hurricane. As a hurricanes winds spin around
and around the storm they push water into a
mound at the storms center. This mound of
water becomes dangerous.



Who are the "hurricane hunters"? The brave
hurricane hunters work for the national oceanic
and atmospheric administration (NOAA). Each
mission lasts about ten hours.


Hurricanes lose strength as they move over
land. The winds around the eye are usually the
strongest. Hurricanes can be tracked by
weather satellites. Hurricanes usually form
over tropical areas of the world.

cyclones, and tropical storms. Regions by
oceans are most at danger from hurricanes.

A normal hurricane can dump 6 inches to foot
of rain. Slow moving hurricanes produce more
rain. In the pacific ocean hurricanes are called
typhoons.

begging wing with "A". he man who first
named a hurricane was a australian forecaster.
Hurricanes are the only natural disaster that is
given its own name.
