Introduction/Anatomy

Parakeets are the smallest members of the parrot 

family.Parakeets are little acrobats.

Their claws are good for climbing.They even

  use their beak as a third foot for climbing.They 

also use their beak for protecting themselves. 

They are good fliers.Parakeets can be trained to 

talk.They can be very good talkers.

Parakeets can come in green,yellow,white,and

blue.They are pretty smart. 

Habitat

Wild parakeets only live in Australia.Parakeets

can also be pets.Wild parakeets travel in flocks. 

Parakeets are safer with us.This is because 

they

have to find food and water.They also have to

look out for enemies.Hawks,eagles,and falcons

hunt and eat parakeets.A lot of parakeets are 

pets.

Diet

Parakeets eat seeds,millet,and berries.They eat

every day.If they don't,they might be sick. 

Parakeets really like loganberries.They are also

a good source of vitamin C in the winter.They also 

like leaves and grass.It keeps them healthy.They 

also like to gnaw, or nibble on branches.

Life cycle

Baby parakeets are called chicks.They are very

small when they hatch,but they get bigger 

when they're older.They cannot fly when they

hatch,but they are able to fly when they are 

older.Female parakeets lay six to eight eggs.

Female parakeets also feed their chicks.They

feed the younger ones first and the older ones

last.
