There was a crooked tree that lived in the forest just on
the edge of a hill among the tall straight trees.
With their tall straight trunks and branches that pointed
up to the sky, the crooked tree thought why am I not tall
and straight with branches that reach for the sky?
The crooked tree wanted to be just like the tall straight
trees, but no matter how hard it tried, the crooked tree
could not stand tall or straighten out its crooked
branches.
Days, weeks and months passed by the crooked tree.

It wanted the forest animals to live in its crooked
branches but the tree realized that the animals in the
forest would travel past the crooked tree and say to
themselves, why would I want to live in a tree with
branches so crooked and the trunk not straight.
So the tree became very lonely. Seasons would pass by
winter, spring, summer and fall and still no animals
wanted this crooked tree for their home.
It was a sunny spring morning when the forest came
alive with all the animals awaking from their long winter
sleep.

Along came a squirrel, a squirrel with a crooked tail.
The tree saw the squirrel with the crooked tail and
thought I am not alone, he is just like me! The squirrel
approached the crooked tree and asked if he could
make his home in the trees crooked branches. "Yes"
said the tree, "we will become friends and have each
other for company."
"It's a pleasure to meet you my name is Sam".
So Sam the squirrel with the crooked tail climbed the
crooked tree and made it's home in the crooked
branches.

After the squirrel moved in, more animals started to
visit the crooked tree.
Along came Mr. Jewbro, a bunny who had a crooked
ear that flopped down over one eye. "Yes, yes, that's
my name... Mr. Jewbro! I hop around in circles getting
nowhere. Can I live under your crooked trunk? It
would be much appreciated."
The crooked tree and Sam the squirrel agreed that Mr.
Jewbro would make a nice companion.
Living happily together, the crooked tree now had
friends to share with, a squirrel and a bunny.

One day, Mr. Jewbro said to his friends, Sam the
squirrel and crooked tree, "I must take a journey
to visit my family."
So he packed a few carrots and followed the path
into the forest.
"Wait, wait" said Sam the squirrel. "What if you
become lost and you can not find your way home?
You tend to hop around in circles!"
Mr. Jewbro said to Sam the squirrel, "if you go to
the very top of the crooked tree and call for me
before bed each night I will hear you and you can
guide me home."

So with great sadness the crooked tree and Sam the
squirrel said their goodbyes to Mr. Jewbro.

Down the path Mr. Jewbro hopped while whistling a
tune. Every now and then he would stop to straighten
out his ear so he could see.
Soon the day turned into night and the forest had
become dark. Mr. Jewbro thought to himself I will
continue down this path for awhile longer.
Stopping here and there to straighten his crooked ear
thinking of how nice it will be to see his family once
again. Mr. Jewbro suddenly stopped, it was now very
dark! How far have I come? he thought to himself.

I did hop around in a circle for a while but I am sure I
am on the right path. Hungry and tired Mr. Jewbro
looked for a warm and safe place to rest for the night.

As the sun was warming Mr. Jewbro the next
morning he slowly opened his eyes. Much to his
surprise he felt something drop on his head. He
sat up and saw sunflower seeds around him. But it
can't be raining seeds he thought. He looked up,
way up in the tree and there was a blue jay.
"Excuse me"' he called out to the blue jay "why
are you dropping sunflower seeds on my head?"
"Oh my" said the blue jay as she flew down to
greet Mr. Jewbro. "My name is Jenna Jay and my
beak is crooked so I can not hold onto my seeds
very well. I do apologize for disturbing you".

Mr. Jewbro noticed that Jenna Jay wore a
yellow apron with many pockets filled with all
sorts of strange things. "Have you traveled far
and where are you going?" she asked
"To see my family in the forest. But I think I
have hopped around in a circle." said Mr.
Jewbro.
"Would you like my help? I have a piece of
string in one of my pockets in my apron that I
can tie your crooked ear to your other ear so
you can see."
"Oh, Jenna Jay that would be so helpful".

"Then I could find my way to my family and back
home to the crooked tree and Sam the squirrel with
the crooked tail".
Jenna Jay gently tied the string around Mr. Jewbro's
ears and said to him "I will fly above you and watch
over you so you won't become lost again."
"Your company would be very nice on my journey,"
the bunny said to the blue jay.
As they went down the path singing and calling out to
each other Mr. Jewbro thought how nice it would be
to have a blue jay live with them and become part of
the family.

They could help each other and live each day
filled with fun and adventure.
Finally they reached a door on the side of a
grassy hill. The sign on the door said Welcome.

This is where Mr. Jewbro's family lives.
"Thank you for your help Jenna Jay this is where I
will be for a few days."
"When you are ready to return home I could follow
you back so you will not get lost" said Jenna Jay.
"Yes! And maybe you can stay and live with us."
"Thank you, that sounds wonderful! I will see you
soon Mr. Jewbro." and off flew Jenna Jay in her
yellow apron with strings and ribbons blowing in the
wind behind her.

Back at the crooked tree Sam the squirrel was
beginning to get worried.
Sam said to the tree, "every night I climb your
crooked trunk to the top and I call and call for
Mr. Jewbro but hear nothing back. I am afraid
that he is lost."
The crooked tree sighed. "Maybe you can speak
to the forest animals and let them know that Mr.
Jewbro might be lost and ask if they can help
you find him".
