Hello there! My name is Laura Foster! I live on
Naples beach in LaPlaya, Florida. I love the fresh
salty air that surrounds me! I live with Mother,
Father, and little Brooke. Father is a fisherman.
So, we often have fish for supper. My mother is
nearly always ill. She hardly has enough time for
me, and Brooke sleeps with her. Brooke is just a
few months old, and let's just say, he is not the
healthiest either. I spend a lot of time at the
beach watching dolphins dive, fishermen loading
in nets of fish, and sailboats floating around
across the breeze! I just love my life!

I love watching my father! It's just so
entertaining! He doesn't fish with the other
fishermen, nor does he use net or pole! He
take bits of cake and fish fat left over from
supper, and throws them into the shallow
parts of the ocean. Then waits for fish to
come and nibble. Slowly he walks up, and
grabs the fish by the tail, and throws him on
shore! Now the fish's supper has turned him
into one. "It takes a lot of practice," he told
me. "I bet," I think.

The next day, when I was shopping, I saw some
military men! "Japan has attacked Pearl Harbor!
We have entered World War ll! The men on these
lists are called to fight!" They shouted. Scrolls
were hung on the walls. I had heard of World
War ll, and now we were entering! And Pearl
Harbor! How was it? I ran, like everyone else,
searching for my father's name. Every bit of me
hoped that he was not on the list. Somewhere, a
woman wailed, a girl cried, and a man screamed.
I searched quickly down the list. Then, there it
was. ANDREW FOSTER. Then I found myself
falling. I had fainted.

That night, we had delicious catfish. I had still
not told my father what I had heard. Then I
poured it out to my family. In the end they
were staring. My mother burst into tears.
Brooke didn't know what was going on, but
since Mother was crying, he decided he must
cry to. WAAAAAAA! Father looked at me.
"Well then! I guess I must pack myself." He
excused himself, and walked up the stairs to
his room. I knew exactly how Mulan felt.
