Cell Ester was a very curious plant
cell. One day while looking in the
mirror he started to wonder what all
his insides were doing. Did they all
have jobs like him? did they all do
different things?

So one day Cell Ester asked his doctor
about it. "Dr. Animal cell?" He
asked, "Yes?" "What do all the things
inside of me even do?" Cell ester
asked. The doctor thought for a moment
before saying "Well, it helps us live
like the organs inside a human body do
for the human." cell ester still looked
confused, so the doctor smiled. "Here,
why don't we think of it like a
school..."

"First lets start with the cell wall. This can be
looked at like the yard going around the school
campus. The wall is surrounding the layers lying
outside of the plasma membrane of plant cells,
the same way the school yard is surrounding the
school itself." The doctor explained.

"Next we have the cell membrane. This
function surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell, the
same way a school gate surrounds the school.
This function not only protects the school and
cell, but also keeps it well organized" Doctor
animal cell explained. "I never thought of it
that way" Cell ester said, trying to imagine a
school gate compared to a cell membrane.

"What about the nucleus? i have heard of that
organelle before" Cell ester asked. "Ah yes, we
cant forget the nucleus. You see, the nucleus is
a very important part of a cell, it hold most of
the cells DNA. This is why we can compare it to
a school building. A school building carry's most
of the student, the same way the nucleus
carry's the DNA." "That's so amazing" Cell ester
said in aw.

"Now we cant possibly forget the
nuclear envelope" the doctor started.
"It is similar the a cell membrane,
but it is truly the outer covering of
the nucleus in a plant cell. just like
you Cell ester" the doctor said,
chuckling." What part of the school
would this be?" Cell ester asked.
"Well, the envelope separates the
nuclear contents from the surrounding
cytoplasm the same way that
classrooms in a school separate the
different subjects, so we can call it
our classrooms."

"What about the student? what are they?" Cell
ester asked excitedly. "Hmm" The doctor
thought. "I suppose they could be the
ribosome function. Ribosomes are cellular
component that makes proteins from all amino
acids. The amount of ribosome a cell has
depends on the cell itself, some can have up to
10 million. Just like students, the size of the
school or the way that it is ran determines how
many student can go in.

"Another function is the endoplasmic
reticulum. This organelle works as a
manufacturing and packaging system. It
is basically a network of membranes
throughout the cell that connects to the
nucleus. This is like the teachers of a
school. The ER function follows the
cells instructions the same way the
teachers follow their bosses
instructions in a school."

"What about mitochondria? what does it do?"
Asked Cell ester. "Well, mitochondria acts like a
digestive system , basically breaking down
nutrients and creating energy rich molecules
for the cell. This function also carry's its own
DNA, being different then all the other
functions. This is why we can call this the
cafeteria of our school, because
his function is like a cafeteria because unlike all
the other functions, this one Carry's its own
DNA and has a different job. Just the the
cafeteria, which gives out food instead of
teaching."
