Dedicated to my Beautiful Mom in Heaven above.
I will always remember you helping me with the poem,
The Salty Sea Captain,
when I was in
4th grade....
Love, Suzy

Storm is coming! We must go! Screech!

Avast! Quiet Crackers,
or no apple for ye!

Batten down! Batten down! Screech...Gang Way! Screech....

The original poem:
A salty sea captain I once knew, sailed across me ocean blue. One day, a mighty wind that blew, threw him overboard with his crew. Alas, he dog paddled until he was blue, when a shark came along and bit off his shoe. Now the salt burns his boo-boo.

A salty sea captain I once knew,

6
sailed across me ocean blue.

7

Fully up to the measure, he weighed anchor to find him more treasure!

8
But somehow his parrot, Crackers,
he knew thar be a mighty wind a brew.

with the crew!

overboard...

It swept them

10

Oh how the ship did creak, when alas the mast went kerplink.
Gangway! Into the salty sea the motley pirates did sink.

11

But, like a flash in the pan,
the ship bobbed back
it did not...

s
looking glass in a huddle.

12

Avast! Nooooo

Ahoy! No land.

But...
sand.

13

They couldn't get back in ther ship, alas the pirates were strand!

14

"Look lively, Me Hearties!"

So, the salty sea captain did what sea captain's do. He sang out...

15

"Don't be lily-livered!
Dog paddle until ye are blue!"
