Once upon a time there was a poor girl 

named Alex. Her and her family lived in 

an old house near an old barn where 

Alex enjoyed playing in everyday after 

school. Since Alex's family did not have 

much money, Alex went to a one room 

school house at the end of the street.

One day when Alex got home from 

school and finished dinner, she went to 

the barn to play. She heard a noise 

coming from inside so she went in to 

find out. She found a little puppy 

covered in mud and dirt. Alex took him 

home to bathe him. After he was all 

clean the puppy said "OH THANKS! 

That feels great!"

Alex was so shocked that 

she fell into the bathtub! 

"YOU CAN TALK!?" she 

yelled! "Well jeesh, you 

never seen a talking dog 

before?!" said Alfie. "Well I 

am only a little girl, do you 

think I ever seen a talking 

dog before?" Alex asked. 

Alfie responded "Well you 

can see me can't you?" "I 

guess you're right," said 

Alex. 

Alfie became a big part of Alex's family. 

They kept it a secret from everyone that 

Alfie could talk. Alex and Alfie became the 

best of friends. They did everything 

together. Even though Alex didn't have 

much, with Alfie, she had all she wanted.

There was a news reporter coming to town 

to do a report on the local bakery. Alfie 

had a great idea that he didn't tell Alex. 

This was a small town so everyone would 

be at this event for sure, for a shot to be 

on the news!!!

Finally, it was the day that the news 

reporter came to the bakery. Alfie made sure 

Alex and her family took him. The news 

reporter started "Reporting live at Small 

Town Bakery, where people come from all 

around the world to taste these amazing 

desserts. Lets hear from a local resident to 

comment."
