Hi, my name is Billy and this is 

my dog named Pumpkin. 

Hi, my name is Billy and this is 

my dog named Pumpkin. 

Pumpkin likes to play fetch and 

loves when I feed her treats, or 

give her my leftovers from 

dinner.

Pumpkin loves me and I love her, but 

sometimes I wonder what she’s thinking.

?

Does she know that when I 

leave to go to school, I’m 

always going to come back?

Does she know that when she 

barks it wakes up the neighbours 

at night?

Does she feel anger? Does she feel sadness? 

I bet you she does. All animals 

have feelings, right?

When I go to the zoo I can see the tigers 

that run in circles in their cages. They 

probably feel sad and because they are in 

such a small space.

I can see the kangaroos that lie on their 

sides all day. They probably feel bored 

and lazy. 

I know Pumpkin gets restless 

when we forget to take her for a 

walk. She is full of energy and 

runs around the house.

I also know that Pumpkin can feel bored 

and lazy. Sometimes she won’t even 

respond to us calling her for a walk, she 

gets so lazy.

Sometimes when I feed Pumpkin, I 

remember that she needs to eat to 

survive, just like you and me!

When I look down on my dinner plate, I 

usually see a piece of meat. I don’t always 

realise it, but sometimes I remember that 

what I’m eating is a real animal.

This animal that is on my plate was alive at 

one point. I wonder what feelings that 

animal had?

I think about Pumpkin and think that 

the animal on my plate and the animal I 

love as my pet probably have the same 

feelings.

Sadness, happiness, and fear.
