Asia is one third of the Earth. The continent of Asia is
so large and diverse that it often is divided into sub-
regions. These sub-regions are, Northern Asia, Central
Asia, Middle East, Southern Asia, Eastern Asia, and
Southeastern Asia. Not only are China, Japan, India,
and Korea countries in Asia but part of Russia, some of
the Middle East, and the pacific islands are too.



Bubble Tea is from Taiwan. The bubbles seen in the
tea are Tapioca balls. Ms. Lin Hsiu Hui was the
creator of bubble tea. All she did was pour her
tapioca balls into her iced tea and that is all it took
to come up with a popular drink in Asia and around
the world.



Chopsticks are utensils that were created 5,000 years
ago and are used for cooking and eating in Asian
countries. Chopsticks are made from a variety of
materials like wood, bamboo, pine, metals, and bones.
Many of the Asian countries that use chopsticks have
created their own chopsticks. A few of these
countries are, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia,
Singapore and other places in East Asia.


The dhol is a doubled headed drum that is used
throughout India. The dhol can be dated back to the
15th century. Someone who plays the dhol is known
as dholi. The dholi uses special facial expression and
frequent rotation of whole body to entertain the
crowds.


In many Asian countries, elders are to be respected
for their wisdom. Elders are also the leaders and
decision-makers in the family. Younger members of
the family have a duty to care for the aging members
of the family. It is also a custom in some Asian
countries to bow when you visit elders.


Today, there are over 500 kinds of fans in China. The
fan can be dated back to over 3,000 years ago. The
first fan called the Shanhan was more like an umbrella
at first but later became a long-handled fan made of
thin and tough silk. Fans can be made of thin bamboo
strips, thin silks, feathers, leaves of sunflowers, and
papers.


Ginger is the strongly flavored root of a tropical plant
that is used in cooking. Chinese use fresh ginger to
make the flavor stronger in their food dishes. Ginger is
also used for healing remedies such as the common
cold. And was used in ancient times as a food
preservative and to help treat digestive problems.



Hinduism is the world's third largest religion. There are
around 750 million people who practice Hinduism. It is
one of the world's oldest religions dating back to 1500
BCE. Hinduism was formed in India. Followers recognize
a single deity, and view other Gods and Goddesses as
manifestations or aspects of that supreme God.



Ishiyaki Imo are sweet potatoes made over hot
stones. There are street vendors in Japan that sell
them. The street vendors sell the sweet potatoes in
the fall. The making of Ishiyaki Imo has been around
for more than 100 years.



Japanese Crane's also known as the Red crowned crane
has a wing span of 2.5 meters or 8 feet. Adult cranes
have a bare patch of skin on the crown of the head,
which is bright red in color. The only difference
between adults and children cranes are the red crown in
the head. The crane is seen as sacred in the japanese
culture.



Komodo Dragons have ben living in Indonesia for
millions of years. Reaching 10 feet and up to 300
pounds, Komodo dragons are the heaviest lizards in
the world. They can reach up to speeds of 11 miles per
hour. And they are on the endangered species list.


Lotus flowers can be grown in water gardens. The lotus
flower is adored in Japan for its ability to rise from the
dirty waters to bloom into a beautiful pure flower. The
lotus opens in the morning then loses its petals in the
evening. This process symbolizes gaining knowledge.



Maldives is a group islands that is made from an
ancient volcanic mountain range. The population of
Maldives is 294,000 The main religion of Maldives is
Islam. The agriculture in Maldives is coconuts, corn,
and sweet potatoes.


The Nepalese Red Panda is a reddish-brown color.
Its tail is 18–50 cm long and there is a pattern of
light and dark rings. They are nocturnal and are
seen by themselves. There are fewer than 2,500
adult Red Pandas left in the wild.


The Orix Buffaloes is one of Japan's professional
baseball teams. They play at an indoor field. During
the 7th inning, they release balloons unlike in America
where we stretch and sing “Take Me Out to the
Ballgame". Baseball in one of the most popular sports
in Japan



The Pokemon video game was created in 1995 in
Japan. The original name of Pokemon was Capsule
Monsters. Then in 1996 the first Pokemon
trading cards were released. It was not until
1998 when the United States got involved with
the Pokemon frenzy. Currently, there are six
generations of pokemon and many more to come.


The Quingming Festival is known as the tomb
sweeping day. This day usually happens at the
beginning of April and is a three day public holiday.
This day is happens so that people can show respect
to their ancestors. Family members bring the
deceased their favorite food to the tomb.
