     Christmas in a Purse

     It is three o'clock in the morning on 

Christmas Day. The wonderful smell of a 

cooking turkey fills the slightly chilled 

house. Six siblings slide quietly out of their 

beds.

     The girls dress in tartan skirts, white 

turtle neck sweaters, white leotards that 

are pulled up to perfection. The whispers 

were loud to those who remain sleeping. 

They were happy whispers, silly whispers 

and even loving whispers. 

     Each sister helps in the brushing of the 

hair and washing of their faces and hands 

especially with the younger ones. The boys 

are in pressed pants and plaid shirts with 

slick comb-overs. Everyone has freshly 

brushed teeth.

     The entire scene is as quiet as a mouse. 

Plenty of years of practice makes each 

Christmas Day unique in every way. Great 

Granny visits from the senior's home to 

spend some quality time with us. 'She is 

liking the ribbon that ties us all together' 

my momma says.

     Each of the boys and girls tip toe to the 

living room. That is where Santa's toys are 

labeled with individual names. Stockings 

were filled to the brim. We all unwrap our 

selected gifts and express our excitement 

with the gentleness of sweet angels.
