All About American AlligatorsAuthor: Kayla TanakaIllustrator: Kayla Tanaka, Delainey Galvan, and McKinley Galvan

A
American Alligators live in south-eastern areas of
the United States such as Florida and Louisiana.

BThese creatures have a powerful bite, but they
have a weak jaw. An adult human could hold
the jaw of alligator with their bare hands.

CAlligators are carnivores and eat a variety of
different animals, such as fish, birds, turtles,
and even deer.

DThere are two different species of alligators. The
American Alligator and the Chinese Alligator.

EAmerican Alligators are hatched from eggs.
They lay about 20-50 eggs.

FThose eggs which are hatched during
temperatures ranging from 90 to 93 degrees
fahrenheit turn out to be male, while those in
temperatures from 82 to 86 degrees fahrenheit
end up being female.

GAmerican Alligators can grow up to 11 feet long.

HAlligators are found in warm water habitats.
They are usually found in freshwater, slow
moving rivers, swamps, marshes, and lakes.

IBaby alligators feed on insects, snails, and
small fish.

JPeople tend to get jumpy when around
Alligators because Alligators can be dangerous
creatures.

KAmerican Alligators are considered to be
keystone species.

LAlligators have been living on earth for millions
of years.

MFor Alligators, mating occurs in early May, with
egg laying occurring in late June and early July.

NAlligators mostly sleep in the sun during the
day and feed at night, when they can only be
detected by the red glow of their eyes.

OAmerican Alligators are a part of the order
'Crocodylia', but that does not mean that
Alligators and Crocodiles are the same. These
two creatures are completely different species.

PAmerican Alligator mothers are very protective
over their babies.

QAmerican Alligators are questionably similar
looking to crocodiles.
