Jamaica.

democracy. The current prime minister is
Portia Simpson-Miller. Citizens vote for the new
prime ministers.



History- Christopher Colombus was the first
to reach Jamaica in 1494. Jamaica is
independent as of 1962. Edward Seaga
was the prime minister in 1980. Patterson
has been the prime minister since 1992.



Icons- Bob Marley, red striped beer,
and blue mountain coffee are important
icons in Jamaica.



Language- The official language is Jamaican
Standard English. The primary language is
called Patwa.




Movement and Migration- People get
place to place with buses that are
driven by residents. Taxis are another
source of transport that is popular in
Jamaica along with motorcycles,
bikes, scooters and boats.




National Pride- The Jamaican flag has a yellow
diagonal cross that divides the flag into four
green and black triangles. A celebration in
Jamaica is the Seville Emancipation Jubilee
which is a celebration of their ancestors. Its a
day of folk art, food, music, and more.




Organizations- The political parties in
Jamaica are the Jamaica Labor Party,
the National Democratic Movement,
the New Nation Coalition, People's
National Party, and Marcus Garvey's
People's Progessive Party.



Population- The population is close to 3 million people. The
major ethnic groups are black, east indian, white, and
chinese. is The age groups are listed below:
0-14 years: 28.4% (male 423,855/female 409,651)
15-24 years: 21.7% (male 319,291/female 316,773)
25-54 years: 36.4% (male 525,288/female 542,015)
55-64 years: 5.6% (male 79,875/female 84,562)
65 years and over: 7.8% (male 102,377/female 126,363)
