Earth Science

Earth Science
Earth Science teaches everything from the layers of the
Atmosphere, to the sedimentary, igneous, & metamorphic
Rocks, to the
Tectonic plates that are
Home to a number of different
Species that are
Contained within their distinctive ecosystems constantly
Interacting with one another. From
Ecology, geology, oceanography, astronomy, to meteorology that includes
Natural disasters, Earth Science is
Composed of an
Excess of interesting earthly facts.

Spherical Blue Planet
It’s a spherical blue planet,
suspended by gravity,
in constant elliptical motion.
Earth is its name,
often displayed as a globe,
with its five unwavering oceans.
Home to varying forms of life,
from simple to complex,
they are all ultimately interwoven.
Such unique organisms
with their own possibilities
causing their own commotion.
How lucky they are
to inhabit such an eccentric planet
in a universe that is so complex, vast, and open.

Extraordinary Science
Do you like science? Science to me
is Newton’s apple-tree gravity.
Albert Einstein’s crazy equation;
Earth’s seasoned tilt and day rotation.
It’s when Neil Armstrong stepped on the Moon;
How penicillin’s no longer immune.
The theory of evolution;
Starting a carbon revolution.
Organisms still developing;
Why the dinosaurs were threatening.
I think it all started with big bang theory …
but science is so limitless and extraordinary!

Geology

Geology
Gigantic rocks and the study of those solid materials that cover the
Entire Earth's surface.
Overtime the weathering and erosion of these rocks form
Layers and several land masses such as the
Ocean floor, volcanoes, islands, and continents; all of which are observed in
Geology. Landslides, avalanches, eruptions, from
Years of time passed, it is amazing learning about the past.

Beautiful Chaos
The Earth is not a static entity,
in fact it is very dynamic in nature,
from the glaciers in Yosemite,
to the mighty craters, cause by meteorites
that collided eons ago,
to the eruptions that cause lava to start flowing,
the Earth is continuously changing, evolving, and growing.
Mountains and faults would cease to exist,
without friction and subduction of plate tectonics,
or even the theory of continental drift.
Without erosion of dissolved materials
being deposited from one location to another,
these beautiful structures would not have been formed.
Take and create, for even chaos can be transformed.

A knowledge of geology
Can help with archaeology
For those who seek our ancient human roots,
Removing the impediment
Of overlying sediment
And proving that our ancestors weren’t brutes.
They lived, as now we know,
Where ancient rivers flow;
But river courses change as time goes by.
So you need to find the places
Where those rivers left their traces-
It’s data geo-science can supply.
River terraces, raised beaches,
Brickhearths, ‘head,’ ‘solution features,’
Now buried, unexplored, perhaps unknown,
Can indicate a site
Where investigators might
Turn up a crafted flint or a butchered bone.
If carefully assessed,
Such evidence can suggest
How Paleolithic people once survived.
And thus, with these two ‘ologies,
Helped along by new technologies,
Geoarchaeology has arrived!

Meteorology

Meteorology
Meteorology measures the changes in the
Earth’s atmosphere.
Temperature, air pressure, water vapor, and the interactions between them in our
Environment are what meteorologists study. They find out when weather events will
Occur, such as
Rainfall, rainstorms, or hurricanes. Using information
Obtained from the
Land, sea, and in the troposphere they can make their
Own predictions for short and long-range forecasts.
Go turn on the television to the weather channel and
You can see what meteorology is all about!

Water Cycle
Dark cumulonimbus clouds form,
Condensing and filling with water,
Early signs of a thunderstorm.
It commences to drizzle and the silence begins to falter,
With the soft pitter patter of drops,
Gently hitting the ground.
The wind picks up and water levels start to rise,
The streams turn muddy and begin to overflow,
Flashes of light begin to materialize in the sky,
An abrupt boom of thunder makes itself known,
Visible rain drops fall harder,
Splink, Splash, onto Soil.
For it is an incessant cycle,
Water goes up as evaporation,
Forms clouds as condensation,
Then comes down as precipitation.
This process is necessary for survival.

When Nature Turns Nasty
When nature turns nasty,
And the earth gets hot,
We could have a volcano,
Blowing off its top.
When nature turns nasty,
And the fierce winds blow,
Hot air meeting cold,
We might have a tornado.
When nature turns nasty,
Temperatures start to fall,
We could all be left freezing,
Below minus zero.
When nature turns nasty,
We’ve got to be aware,
We could have tsunami,
Earth quakes everywhere.
When nature turns nasty,
We could have torrential rain,
Pelting down on roof tops,
Over filling our drains.
When nature turns nasty,
Flames of fire everywhere,
Trees and bushes burning,
Smoke rising in the air.
When nature turns nasty,
Let’s all be aware,
Helping each other,
Showing that we care.
