As a child Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa Italy 1451, his parents were Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa. He had three younger brothers and one sister. Out of his brothers and sisters Columbus later in life happen to do something Amazing that is still known for today and celebrated.
2
August 3 1492 Columbus leads three ships the Santa Maria, Pinta and the Nina out to sea on a voyage. Columbus may have been the one leading the voyage but the people who paid for his exploration was the rulers of Spain Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand.
3
On this voyage Columbus is trying to find a new route from Spain to the far east or the indies. He is also hoping to find gold and valuable spices so then Spain will be rich.

4
During the start of this trip the sailors were afraid of getting lost they did not know how long the trip would take, how big the ocean is or what would be on the other side. Columbus on the other hand was confident in his trip he is a navigator mapmaker and explorer.
5
Columbus had some struggles early on his trip. Columbus knows that the world is round so he thinks to get to the far east he can go west but, what Columbus doesn't know is that is that the world s bigger than he thinks.
6
Columbus´ three ships the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria were not the strongest ships for this journey. There was no land to be spotted anywhere. So they knew this was going to be a long trip and having a long trip can lead to many struggles along the way.
7
There are many terrible things that could happen by the time that they find land. The ships were not the strongest ships they were small, only made of wood and had no motors so if there was a storm or the wind blew in another direction or stopped blowing they had no control on where the ship was going to go.Also there was no help to come if they ran out of food or some one got hurt or they were in danger. They knew for sure once they started the trip they could not go back.
8
Luckily none of that happened, Columbus and his men were smooth sailing with good weather, calm seas, lots of food to feed the hungry men, plenty of water and supplies to get to land.

9
After Almost a whole month of sailing there was still no land in sight. The sailors started losing hope and giving up. They started trying to convince columbus to turn back and telling him that they will never find new land. Although it seemed there was no hope in finding new land but, Columbus would not bulge he truly believed in his exploration. He begged the sailors to wait just a couple more days.
10
Columbus was lucky to have to sailors to wait and not give up because soon enough October 12, 1492 land was spotted by the Pinta and lots of excitement was spread within the sailors and Columbus.
