Once upon a time, there was a wonderful zoo.
The zoo was filled with animals, birds and reptiles.
In this book, I will try to show some of these animals to you and explain about the different creatures.

A - Antelope
Antelopes live in Africa and look like Gazelles. Antelopes can run very fast. It's important that they run fast because there are lots of predators that would like to eat Antelopes.

B - Baboon
Baboons are monkeys. They eat meat and vegetables because they are omnivorous.
Baboons like to live in the woodlands and savannas of Africa.

C - Cheetah
The cheetah also lives on the plains of Africa. They are predators, which means that they eat other, smaller animals.
Cheetahs can run as fast as 109.4 to 120.7 km/h, faster than any other land animal.

D - Dolphin
Dolphins are fast swimming marine mammals and they are very cute!
Dolphins use their speed and group hunting skills to catch their prey.

E - Elephant
Elephants are the biggest of all land mammals.
There are two different types of elephant; African and Indian.
They use their nose (which is called a trunk) to do many things, such as pick up things and take a shower.

F - Flamingo
The Flamingo is a large bird that stands around on one leg to sleep!
It is brightly coloured and is mainly found in South America and Africa, but also in Southern Europe and Asia.

G - Gopher
There are two main species of gopher, the pocket gopher and the Richardsons ground gopher, both of these species of gopher are found in North America. The gopher is a small squirrel-like rodent which lives in burrows underground.

H - Hammerhead Shark
Hammerhead Sharks are appropriately named after their flat shaped heads. Hammerhead sharks are large carnivorous fish that feed on large fish and occasionally hammerhead sharks will hunt small water mammals.

I - Iguana
Iguanas are native to the jungles of central and South America, and the Caribbean. The iguana is a large docile species of lizard, meaning that iguanas are often a popular choice when keeping exotic pets.

J - Jaguar
The Jaguar is the largest feline on the American continent, and is the only one of the world's 'big' cats to be found in the New World.

K - Kangaroo
The kangaroo is a marsupial that is indigenous to Australia and the Indonesian island of New Guinea. Although kangaroos are often seen congregating in groups, kangaroos are generally fairly solitary mammals, but kangaroos are also known for being sociable animals when with other kangaroos.

L - Lion
The Lion is one of the largest, strongest and powerful felines in the world second only in size to the Siberian Tiger. They are the largest cats on the African continent and are unique among felines in a number of ways but the biggest difference between Lions and other cats is that they are incredibly sociable animals that live together in family groups known as prides.

M - Mole
Moles are a small mammals that are most well known for living in tunnels underground. Moles are commonly found in Asia, South Africa, North America and Europe, although there are oddly no moles inhabiting Ireland.

N - Numbat
The numbat is a small-sized marsupial that is found in Western Australia. The numbat has long, colourful fur and despite being a marsupial, the female numbat does not have a pouch on her belly.

O - Ostrich
The ostrich is the biggest bird in the world with a male ostrich often growing more than 2 metres tall. The ostrich is also the world's fastest bird on the ground being able to run at speeds of up to 50 mph for short periods of time.

P - Penguin
The penguin is found pretty much only in the Southern Hemisphere, only a handful of penguins though are in the far south. The Emperor Penguin inhabits the icy lands of Antarctica.
